BM dresses + princess wedding gown matching

Hi, ladies,

I need some advice. This is my wedding gown: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Beaded-Neckline-and-Beaded-Tulle-Skirt-NT8017

I've been looking for bridesmaid gowns that are under $100 , short, and don't look "wedding-y." One of my bridesmaid found this dress: http://rosepromdresses.com/shop/products/itemNX.asp?id=2177&vendorid=NX (my girls would wear it in turquoise). I LOVE this dress because it looks like a a mini-version of mine. ...However, I'm worried that it might be too much tulle together! I don't want us to look weird.

Then I considered this dress in either turquoise or silver: http://www.lightinthebox.com/A-line-Strapless-Short---Mini-Taffeta-Bridesmaid--Little-Black--Wedding-Party--Homecoming-Dress--FSH0399-_p69163.html but then I wondered if the A-line would still be too overwhelming next to my poofy princess dress.

What do you guys think? Should I stick with one of the above, or should I try to find something a little more form-fitting?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

  • If I were your bridesmaid, I would not be happy about the first dress. It's a very young look, like for prom or homecoming, and I think in your photos you would regret a less elegant looking choice.

Af all the links I prefer the Mori Lee one a PP linked.
  • Same- I'd feel like a 6 year old wearing the first dress. It just looked cheap to me. The second one is still really fun- has a great shape, and is something they can wear again.

I struggled with the same thing as you- I have a tulle bottom on my dress, and I found a Max and Cleo dress that was grey satin on top and black tulle on the bottom. I initially loved the dress- but felt like it was too similar to mine. I went another route and got a dress similar to your second one by B2.

  • I don't think the first one is appropriate for anyone over 17.  The second one is much, much better.

  • Agree with PPs.  The first one is too juvenile.

I'd much prefer the second dress, but am worried it might be too short and revealing.  The name is a "short/mini".  But I really like the style.
  • I prefer the second dress!
I also really like the Alvina Valenta Cayla sent. Gorgeous!
  • Thanks for the input, ladies!

I guess I should have written a few more details to clairfy what I'm looking for in a bridesmaid dress. I'm looking for something above the knee. And I'm definitely looking for something that doesn't look "wedding-y" -- I want it to be fun! (That was part of the basis behind the first dress :) We ARE young, and I'm focusing more on havng a fun, modern wedding than something that looks "elegant." I'm the type of girl that prefers hotdogs at a football game over caviar at the opera. :) I love the first link that CaylaSummer posted, but I'm not sure how much it is -- I'll be looking into that!

In any case, I appreciate the feedback from all.

<div>I completely understand what you're saying, as I want my BMs to be in fun dresses also.  But you can have fun dresses that are also age appropriate.  I think you're heading on the right track.  ;-)</div><div>
</div><div>Check out some other Jasmine B2 dresses.  That is the designer I am going with.  A bunch of their dresses have ruffles, flowers, etc that make them fun.  And even my 40 year old FSIL will feel comfortable!</div>

  • I would definitely go with the second dress.  Not necessarily for the same reasons as PP (although they are good points).  But my first thought looking at the second dress is that it is a fabulous contrast to your dress.  I just think that having the very different dress will accentuate the fun/playful nature of your dress.  I totally get the look that you are going for with your wedding dress.  The second dress will definitely emphasize to this look.
