Umbrella opinions

We are planning on doing our wedding photos outdoors so I'm going to purchase umbrellas for the WP to use in the event it rains.  So I'm looking for umbrellas that are be functional as well as pretty for photos.  The guys are in grey and the girls are in blue, so I'm thinking of getting the clear bubble umbrellas with a colored trim on the edge in coordinating colors (blue for the boys and silver for the girls).  However, in some photos I like how they look and in other's I don't (and I'm thinking maybe just to use traditional umbrellas).  I'm attaching a photos so you have an idea as to the syle that I'm looking at.  Please let me know what you think!

Re: Umbrella opinions

  • I like the bubble umbrellas too.  But I would just keep them clear plastic without the colored trim.  I think the color trim could take away from the people in the picture...like it may draw your eye more to the umbrellas

  • Thank you both and good point Maggie!  After thinking some more, do you think that them being clear make them look cheap?  I guess that's what my concern is.

Also - now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should just use this style clear umbrella for the girls and your standard black umbrellas for the guys?  This style might look silly on the guys.  What do you think?
  • I got an umbrella for my wedding in case of rain.  I found the cuuuutest one on e-bay in the shape of a heart.

I friggin loved it so much I was almost sad it didn't rain.

That is cute!  It totally would have still taken pics with it!
  • I love bubble umbrellas, they are awesome for keeping your head and upper body dry but if you have a big dress you might want to go for a tradtional for more coverage.

  • Remember the clear bubble umbrellas are actually the Queen's umbrella. So no they do not look cheap. Thanks for posting this, as I am having an outdoor wedding and need an umbrella just in case. I already own a clear bubble one, so its nice to see how it works with a wedding dress.
    ;)
  • I like the clear bubble umbrellas, agree with leaving off any coloured trim, and also agree that you may be better off with traditional ones in a darker colour for the boys.

I have a similar dilemma, as we're going to take a walk along a windy seafront after our ceremony to take some pictures. Are the bubble umbrellas good in windy weather?! Do they stand up to much?
  • Thank you all for the feedback!  I went with the clear bubble umbrellas (with white handles, no trim) for the ladies & standard black umbrellas with a wooden handles for the guys.

RaeCharlie - I'll let you know, but I ordered them from Amazon.  I read through the reviews and it seems like the design itself will hold up to wind & rain better than the standard umbrella (mostly because the wind doesn't get under the metal spokes so they don't flip as easily).  But, like anything, the quality varies from brand to brand.  I read through the reviews and tried to get the best quality one for the price (I didn't want to spend more than $15/umbrella).  I'd let you know how it works out, but it appears that you're getting married the week before me, so I won't be much help.  Congrats and good luck!
