What Dress to Wear?

What kind of attire are you wearing for night of rehearsal? I'm having a hard time deciding. Also, on the day of my wedding I have a reception after the wedding but then I have a reception/party after that. Being everyone in our family is very reglious but we're not and we wanted to celebrate in a way they didn't...so we chose this way.... What kind of dress could I wear to that reception?

For the rehearsal I am wearing a nice sundress that I already own.  It's white with a green and yellow print.

I am doing something similar to what you're doing; I'm headed to the bar after my reception.  I found a strapless white cocktail dress at white house black market.  I still wanted to be 'the bride all dressed in white' at the bar, but you could really wear any color.

J Crew, Nordstrom's, and Macy's have nice cocktail dresses as well.

  • I wore a little black dress to our rehearsal--the opposite of the big white dress, you know? But there are some great white sundresses on sale right now, so if you wanted something bridal but fun you could go that route.

I'd stick with the wedding dress for the afterparty, unless it's going to be a big hassle. After all, most of us wish we could wear our wedding dresses just a little longer, right? Where is the party? A bar? A restaurant? If you're going someplace where a wedding dress would be a big hassle, you could always change into a shorter white dress, like one of those sundresses I mentioned.
  • I'm in a similar situation for the wedding, so I'm wearing a one-shouldered short white cocktail dress for when the dancing gets going. It's from Nordstrom.
  • For the rehersal I would wear something appropriate for wherever you are having your rehersal dinner...if it is fancy I'd be dressier.  If it is at home, or a pub, I'd be a little more casual.  But I'd still wear a dress of some sort.

I would wear my wedding gown the entire day of my wedding.  If your gown is a VERY big ballgown style I understand that might be difficult depending on the location of your parties.  In that case I'd choose a simple white/ivory shorter dress like those offered at JCrew.  But that's just me.
  • We had our rehearsal dinner for about 15 people in my MIL's backyard- BBQ style. We did the rehearsal in the garage.  We all wore jeans and t-shirts/sweatshirts.  I am sooo glad that we kept it very casual.  It made the evening much less stressful and more fun.

A strapless onr or a one-shoulder one is good.

I am a 3 dress bride. One of which I will sell never having worn. One of the three is a vintage off-white tea length 50s prom dress that I am wearing to the rehearsal. I added some color to it and will wear it with a pink cardigan. It didn't fit when I bought it years ago, so I had to alter it substantially in the back and would not consider wearing it as my wedding dress. It's cute and fun and people know me for being overdressed wherever I am. So this will be no exception.

I think a fun white dress is totally appropriate. As is any color really. But I think that you could be dressed a little nicer than normal as there will/may be a ton of pictures taken.  However if you are a casual kind of girl, I think that you can stick with that as well. I agree with PP that it's a good night to try and feel relaxed. Or at least as best you can, try to.
