What should the groom wear to "dress down" my gown?

I am getting married June 18, 2011 and I have just decided that I want a casual vintage wedding (if that's even possible).  I want people to leave the wedding thinking "How cute."  The dress that I have is ivory and I need to figure out what my fiance should wear to kind of "dress down" my dress.  I think if he has a tux that it will be too formal and that's not what I'm going for.  We are having this wedding on a budget of $5000 so whatever he wears needs to be inexpensive.

Any ideas?

Also, what color? My wedding colors are yellow, rasberry, and blueberry.  Should the Best Man wear the same thing?  My Matron of Honor will be wearing yellow.
  • Do the guys have suits?  A suit is a good alternative to a tux.

Could you post a picture of your dress? It might be easier to give ideas if we knew exactly how formal it is.

Currently, I'm picturing a grey suit (maybe with a subtle grey on grey pinstripe) with a yellow or blue skinny tie to add a bit of a casual/quirky twist.

  • for a vintage inspired wedding button up shirt pants, suspenders bow tie? or regular tie, cool vest button up shirt no tie?
  • How is what he wearing going to dress down your gown? His attire should match yours in terms of how formal it is.
  • You can always do khaki pants and navy or black suit jackets, or a khaki suit which would be great for June

  • I'd have him rock some tweed, mabye a vest?
  • A suit would be a good idea!
