alterations vent..sorry so long

I posted last week saying that I was worried my seamstress would still not have my alterations ready for my fitting tonight, but she assured me that it would be no problem. Today she called in the morning to clarify her notes on the work order because she was starting to work on the dress. I asked if she wouild still be ready for my appt and was again told it would be no problem. After work on my way to the appt which is over a one hour drive away she called to say it was note ready. I asked what she had been able to get done. Her answer was that "i was able to replace the pins that came out for the hem and bustle". I am completely freaking out now..my wedding is in 3 1/2 weeks, she has had the bustle and hem pinned for 9 weeks and still nothing is sewn and she stil lneed to take in the top, reinforce the loops for corset and a few other minor details. Now I am suppossed to go back next Thursday. I have been assured by the seamstress and the store manager, that although she has been busy with a lot of other brides that she will be able to get mine done for next week. I am so upset, I just am not sure how to handle this. I am trying to be patient and understanding but also want to be sure my dress will be ready. I do not want to call and make a compliant because I am afraid she may not do good quality work but worry about the same thing if she is rushing to finish on time.FI has suggessted looking for another seamstress but not sure if I have time and I had to pre-pay $350 for these alterations and cannot afford to lose the money and pay someone else. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Holy CRAP, I would be nuts. I don't have any advice, just sympathy.
I think pre-paying for alterations is a boat load of sh*t, but that's how my seamstress works too. I just pray by starting alterations in July, everything goes smoothly.  I finally get to see, touch & try on my dress this Friday and the seamstress will be there to tell what the actual charge will be for any alterations needed, for mine & my 3 of my 4 BMs.

  • Ugh...I'm sorry.  :(  I honestly don't know what to say.  If you talked to the store manager about it then I think that is a great start.  I had issues at my dress fitting last week.  My lady wanted me to try a red lace in the back to lace up my dress instead of my white one.  I entertained her, but I decided it wasn't for me.  When I took the dress off after all of the pinning I noticed the back of my dress was now PINK!  The red lace bled all over the back of my dress.  She told me if she can't get it out she'll put in new loop, etc. and acted like it was no big deal.  I am trying to remain calm but OMG I am nervous about seeing my dress next week which will be 2 weeks out from the wedding.
  • If you're truly worried about it not getting done, I would go to the store and ask that you be refunded, minus the price of the current work completed, and take your dress elsewhere.  The woman has probably been busting her butt trying to get dresses done for recent brides (May is when weddings really start picking up for the season), but if you're that worried, I would go ahead and do it.  You may have to suck up the cost if they won't refund you.

I've seen women get alterations done up until the week of their wedding.  So, you either need to trust these people that they'll get it done on time, or go to someone you think will do it in a more timely fashion.
