Ivory Dress and White Flowers?

I wss told by a bridal dress sales associate that because my dress is Ivory that I should not have white items next to my dress. For example no white table clothes, no white flowers, no white clothes next to my dress (flower girls) becuase it would make my dress look dirty. Is that really the case? I really wanted white peonies for my bouquet but I don't want it to look like my dress is dirty. Has anyone else heard this? Is this really true?

  • Oh how silly sales people are! No one is going to notice. I wouldn't give her opinion a second thought. Everything will look perfect.

White flowers will be fine. Look up pictures of weddings using those flowers. Odds are, a large chunk of people are wearing ivory because it tends to be more flattering on more skin tones than bright white.

This, pay no mind to these people. You dont match your dress to your decor, because it doesnt matter.

  • These sales associates really don't know what they're talking about.  I wish all this "no white" when you wear ivory would go away.
  • A LOT of girls get married in ivory dress and (GASP) have white tablecloths.
    It's fine.
  • My dress is ivory...my flowers I will have ivory roses, white-ish spider mums and white hydrangeas....my BMs will probably have ivory gerbera daisies.  I think they mean if you are wearing ivory...don't have the guys in black and white tuxes, chose an ivory shirt...because that will look weird together.  But fine details won't matter.

No! This is so not true, once again the shirt color should be white. No One will notice.

Please just put the men in white crisp shirts and leave it at that. I guarantee in my picture you cant tell the difference.

This. The guys should have white shirts or they will really look yellow. I had an ivory gown, white flowers and DH wore a white shirt. You couldn't tell at all that my gown was different. If anything, my veil looked a little dark but i dont think anyone noticed. You could do ivory linens if they are included at your venue but seriously, white will look fine. GL!

  • whats wrong with having white flowers, it's not like the whole background and thing is white colour
  • White flowers? Seriously?  Nothing in nature is PURE white anyway, so even "white" flowers will be closer to ivory.

White linens and shirts for the guys?  No big deal.  My dress was ivory lace, and my huband wore a white shirt -- it looked just fine.

  • My dress is ivory and champagne details so i've been a stickler about not having anything pure white at the wedding. I did go with ivory dress shirts for the guys and I think it looks really nice with the black jackets. It's a personal choice. I was an art major in college so I'm pretty particiular about colors going together.

Well I picked an ivory shirt for my guy...the groomsmen are in teal anyway so that won't matter but they said all the table clothes should be ivory then I started thinking about flowers. I think in pictures with the light and flash of the camera my dress will look white anyway so the flowers wont matter in color. I am a person who notices the details....kinda like Tori Spelling...So it's nice to hear from an art major ...kinda a color expert ;)

Thank you everyone for all your opinions. It was a weight off my shoulder to hear them :) I have only had 4 months to plan this wedding because my soon to be MIL is very ill. And I a person who pays attentiuon to detail....things nobody else notices when you scrapbook...I will see it in mine LOL ...kinda like Tori Spelling Wink

Anyway I picked an ivory shirt for my guy...the groomsmen are in teal anyway so that won't matter but they said all the table clothes should be ivory then I started thinking about flowers. I think in pictures with the light and flash of the camera my dress will look white anyway so the flowers wont matter in color. I of course have had to go cheap since I had only 4 months so The table linens will be of the plastic variety LOL Owell...gotta choose my big spending wisely so I think I will make them a different color any way :)
Thanks again guys   it helped me a lot
