cheap bridesmaid dresses

I need help finding cheap and relativly modest bridesmaid dresses. They have to be at least knee length and can't be low cut. Also if they don't have sleeves I need to find jackets for them. It's so hard to find anything. I've been looking but I can't afford $200 a dress. Any ideas? Even stores with regular dresses. I'm not having a formal wedding so I don't mind even sundresses.

Re: cheap bridesmaid dresses

  • David's Bridal is the first one that comes to mind. Or you could just have your BM's choose black dresses in the length you want and you could do a colored sash or something for a pop of color. This way the BM's choose their own dress, are comfortable with it, and a black dress is definitely able to be worn over again.

You can always do cute boleros or wraps for all of them if you are worried about bare shoulders.
  • I bought shawls for my BMs so their shoulders would be covered during the ceremony (I'm just assuming here that is why you want sleeve/jackets).  As where to look, I don't have anywhere to suggest that PPs didn't already suggest.

  • I would avoid bridal designers and just check department stores for cute dresses.

I just bought this one from Kohl's with one of my Christmas gift cards!

  • That dress is very beauful!

  • Might be best just to give them some basic guidelines (and stress the modesty part) and let them choose their own.  That way they can shop bridal designers, department stores, thrift stores, their own closests, whatever they feel comfortable with.  It's easiest to do this with black and tie in your colors in other ways, but you can have them in shades of a color (say all different purples or greens) or give them a paint chip or fabric swatch and tell them to get as close as they can.  That way they're setting the price on their own and you don't have to worry about having the budget conversation.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • If you want a spring/summer dress, right now is the time to buy - their on clearance. I would look at Nordstroms, Kohls, JcPenny. Davids Bridal has some on sale too.

  • My bridesmaids got their from AnnTaylor.com for $129 apiece (during a 40% off sale). They can get shrugs, boleros or wraps from eBay, David's Bridal, Le Chateau, Group USA or a prom store like Windsor.

If you live in a big city, sometimes street vendors sell wraps for $5 each or so. They're all over New York.

  • Holy crap, Opal, that dress is cute! I want one!

Okay, that didn't really add to the discussion, but I just had to say it.
