Glasses or Contacts?

What do you all think? I've had glasses forever & never really wore contacts....should I look into them for the wedding?

Re: Glasses or Contacts?

  • I think you should definately try them.. I wear contacts and I much prefer them over my glasses. You might like them so much you'll wear them every day. you'll either love them or hate them but you wont know until you try,
  • If you are interested in contacts for any reason besides the wedding I say look into them. But if you are only interested in them for the wedding and prefer wearing your glasses everyday I would say don't worry about. There are many brides wearing glasses that look beautiful.

  • I used to wear contacts every day but due to finances can't justify spending about $300 every 6 months for them. However, I have a few pairs saved back from the last time I bought them for things like engagement pictures and the wedding. FI likes me better in glasses and I like myself better in contacts, so I'll probably do a few each way for engagement pictures at least.

  • Go for it, if it is something you've wanted to do for yourself, not just the wedding.  The point is to look like yourself, so if you plan to continue wearing the contacts (or at least semi-regularly), have at it.  FWIW, once I got contacts, I never looked back.  For a million reasons, they're much more convenient than glasses and I love them!

  • If glasses are you and a part of your "look," I say wear them. However, you may want to at least try contacts. After I got contacts, I never looked back. I hardly ever wear my glasses except at night around the house.

You may want to speak with your photographer about it as well bc I don't know if you would need to be concerned with the way the flash would reflect in your pics.
  • One of the posters on the etiquette board (nugget) just posted her wedding pictures.  She wore glasses and looked great!

If I know I'm going to have my picture taken I wear my contacts, but that's what I'm comfortable with.  If you're more comfortable with your glasses go for it!

  • I'd give the contacts a try.  But there is nothing wrong with wearing your glasses.

You can also remove them for a few pictures so you have both looks. :)
  • Contacts take a lot of getting used to if you've never worn them before.  The last thing you want to be doing on your wedding day is rubbing your eyes and blinking constantly because they're bugging you.  If you've been thinking about contacts anyway, I'd try to get hold of a pair ASAP so you have time to get used to them.  But if you'd only want them for the wedding, don't bother.  Lots of brides wear glasses and look great.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

If you're considering contacts get them right away to make sure you feel ok w/ them in.  Like a PP said, you dont want to be messing w/ them on your wedding day (having them bother your eyes).  I have both contacts and glasses.  My FI likes me better in glasses (something w/ the librarian look lol) but I like me in contacts.  I'm going to do the first half of the wedding in my contacts and then switch to glasses as the night goes on.  This way we're both happy!

  • I think if glasses are "you" and you think you might not look like yourself without them, then stick with the glasses. You could even get a new pair of dainty or more formal glasses which might look more wedding-y, they can be a pretty accessory just like a new piece of jewelry.

But, if you don't really care about wearing the glasses, then try the contacts.  Maybe take some pictures of yourself in your dress with and without the glasses and see what you think is the bridal style you like more.
  • I just today looked into this same dilema.  My eye doctor requires that you have an eye exam in the last 6 months before they will fit you for contacts, if your insurance only covers an exam every 2 years, the exams can be expensive.  I'm going to try it, but it's an investment of $300-400 for something I may only end up using for one day.
  • Contacts. I think it is a shame when brides and grooms wear glasses at their weddings. Glasses date you. When you look back at photos years from now, you will probably wish you had contacts. I have worn glasses since I was 4 and have worn contacts since the 11th grade. I literally wear my contacts maybe twice per month. I don't take formal or special occassion photos with glasses.
  • I would start trying the contacts now if your looking to wear then form here on out. That way, you won't look back at your pics and wonder why you look so differnt and ppl will thnk you look diff too if you only wear them for the wedding. I wear contacts it took a while to get used to not having my glasses on. Now when in a blue moon I wear my glasses I look totally diff bc everyone is now used to th econtacts. Plus glasses date you, but if they are part of your personality, go for it!

I do no agree that glasses date you unless you have like grandma glasses or something!  They made so many funky and contemporary kinds of glasses now that I absolutely do not think they date someone.  I've had glasses since I was 5 and contacts since I was 12.  I do not think "most people" has trouble getting contacts in like CMGr said, but yes some do.  I never had trouble with it at all...some kind of contacts can bother someones eyes though, but thats why you try different pairs on w/ your doctor so you dont order something irritating.

If you want to try contacts go for it, but if you want to wear glasses go for it!
Either way you'll make the right decision for you!
