Where does netbride get their dresses? Minor panic..

I posted last weekend about getting my dress from netbride.com because the bridal shop wanted about $700 more. I based my decision on the many great reviews, the fact that they're A+ with the BBB, and fact that they're so highly recommended here. The bridal shop owner is upset that I am ordering elsewhere (placed my order yesterday!), and she called Private Label to see if they supply gowns to netbride.com. They insist that they do not, and are in fact ordering one of their own gowns from netbride to see what they get.

This has me a little bit freaked out. Did I just order a replica, or is there some logical explanation that I'm missing? If netbride is not getting their gowns from the designer, where are they getting them from? I just sent an email to netbride to ask, I guess we'll see what they come back with. Obviously this shop owner has a vested interest in the situation and in scaring me out of ordering from netbride, but still.. If she's trying to scare me she's doing a good job...

  • I always wondered the same thing about the online sites.  please share when you find out.  And take deep breaths

  • I would take what ever the bridal shop owner told you with a grain of salt... Unless I heard the information directly from the source, I would not believe it.  Have you tried calling the manufacturer?
  • I did try calling the manufacturer and the number listed on their site was out of order.. This is Private Label by G, a well-known designer, so while I found it odd that their 1-800 number was out of order, I didn't think too much of it..

We'll see what happens. I checked into my credit card policy before ordering and they will refund my money and then go after netbride if the product is fraudulent. So overall I feel like I'm pretty well protected, and worst case scenario I need to find an off-the-rack dress. This one is supposed to be delivered almost 5 months before the wedding, so that leaves lots of time to find an alternative dress if need-be..

[QUOTE]from netbride.com "We place most of our orders directly with the factory-designer through our bridal shop; we place some of our orders by networking with other bridal shops." "You will receive the gown you order, brand new from the designer. All gowns are shipped insured. Our company stands behind our guarantee." <a href="http://netbride.com/faq/who-bridal-store.php" rel="nofollow">http://netbride.com/faq/who-bridal-store.php</a> The bridal shop you didn't order from might just be trying to freak you out.

I had read this on the website, but there is absolutely nothing in place that holds them to the statements they make on their website - legally those guarantees are worthless.

I find it hard to imagine that there wouldn't be any terrible reviews and warnings out there if they really are selling replicas, so I'm trying to remain calm and logical..

I'm sure the bridal shop is just trying to scare me into ordering from them, of course they would want the sale and their absurd markup..

  • Techinically it would be false advertising if netbrides advertised a designer gown and sold a replica.

That's not true, you'd certainly have a claim against them for unfair or deceptive trade practices.  The Federal Trade Commission Act covers this.

At any rate, I hope this works out for you and everything works out okay.  I agree, this woman sounds like she might be trying to scare you.  I'd try calling the company again and also searching for their corporate headquarters number to try to reach someone.
  • Maybe look on the BBB website? You can see if there have been any legal claims made against the company, what their rating is, and you should be able to find legitimate contact information for them there.
  • How did the dresses turn? I'm currently looking into buying my dresses from netbride. Are they trustworth????
