Who wears tuxes?

Hi ladies, I'm hoping you have some input for me here.

FI, his groomsmen, our ring bearers, and our fathers will all be renting tuxes. We also have three ushers, one of whom is my brother. Should I have my brother rent a tux as well, since the rest of my family will be in formal attire (my sisters are BMs)? Or do I just have him in a suit, since FI doesn't necessarily want to make the other two ushers rent tuxes? Would it be weird to have him in a tux and the other two ushers in suits?

Thanks, ladies. :)

Re: Who wears tuxes?

  • Suits are fine, but you could definitely give them the option, in case they would feel left out by not wearing tuxes. It's not necessary for them to match, either, so if one wants a tux and the other doesn't, let them have at it.
  • I say just leave it up to them.  We told the dads they could either rent the tux we'd reserved or wear a suit.  No one actually owned anything appropriate, so my stepdad invested in a new suit while both dads went with the tux.  I don't think it looked strange having them in different outfits.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Only my FI is going the tux route for our wedding (he gets to stand out like I do, too) - groomsmen and dads will be in black suits.  We have been in so many weddings and wanted to keep it easy on the BP (BMs are picking their own little black dresses).  Ushers are my tween neices and nephew - just "dressing up" - no formal attire.

  • I think for pics of your family it would be nice if her were in a tux since everyone else will be formal.

  • Offer the option of a tux, but let them decide. If they have a nice suit it won't look bad in pictures.
