Veil - When to Wear It

Hey everyone. I just bought my wedding dress and veil yesterday for my wedding on October 2nd!! My question is, do brides only wear their veils for the ceremony, or can you also wear it for the reception? Thanks!

Re: Veil - When to Wear It

  • Many brides choose to wear it for the ceremony and then take it off for the reception, however, it is totally a personal choice, and both ways are completely acceptable.  Alot of it depends on how comfortable you are with it on and what type of veil it is.  For example, mine is a very long dramatic cathedral veil and so will probably need to come off for the reception, but then the beauty of that is that I get to use a different hair accessory in my hair for the reception for a whole second look :)  Just do whatever feels most comfortable for you.

  • If my veil were shorter or if I had a second veil I would have worn it during my reception.  It's just a matter of preference.

  • PP- totally right it all about you. I am only wearing mine for the ceremony but my best friend is wearing her through out because she said you only get to wear once. So if you put it on and never want to take it off dance your night away with it!
  • My DD was a two veil bride.  She had a cathedral length veil for the ceremony and pictures and then she changed the veil and had a short bubble veil.
  • I wore my Mother's veil and removed it just before the start of the reception. It's personal preference and you can do whatever's most comfortable for you!

  • Also, veils can be bustled so if you have a longer length, chapel or cathedreal, you can bustle it still wear it and that actually looks very nice.
  • mine is elbow length, and it matches my dress. i'll be wearing it for the whole time :)
  • I am HOPEFULLY going to wear mine all night.  When I was a little girl I always thought that the veil says BRIDE.  However--if it gets too annoying then its coming off!! its just to my elbows but who knows.
