To use a seamstress or not..

So I'm looking for a little advice: The wedding dress I want is 100% out of budget...SO I was wondering if any of you have had some experience you'd like to share with getting a custom dress made. The dress I want is pretty simple:

Rosa Clara

Unknown designer

This is basically what I want. off shoulder and lacey on top, buttons down the back and I would prefer 3/4 sleeves (not such a long train either). That's not too much right? I'm just wondering if it would be more feasible to get a dress made or keep searching all over the internet until my eye balls fall out. Thanks!

  • My imput might not be what you were looking for, because I have no experience about working with a dressmaker. The second picture sort of reminded me of a White by Vera Wang dress I had tried on at DB.

The dress is not off the shoulder, but it kind of had the same feel to me, for whatever reason. The lace top is a shrug though. I wonder if you would be able to find a lace shrug to go over a more affordable gown? One like this:

    Good luck!

  • Yup, lace is very expensive. Having a custom made dress by a decent seamstress is expensive.

Nukke, from the Vintage and Retro weddins board bought a dress and then had an off the shoulder lace cover up with 3/4 sleeves made. You can also buy super simalar ones on Etsy to get the look you desire.

Also, have you tried on a dress similar to this? I was SO SURE I wanted a lace dress and when I tried it on, I hated it. I wound up with zero lace on my dress.

Originally I wanted a fulla lace dress but I tried one on and it was too much. I didn't like it at all. So all I really want now is the top to be lace and off shoulder. I searched and found some lace boleros that I hope will work. It's just a matter of finding one that does't look real tacky. Soft lace is what I'm looking for (which will probably be more expensive). Thanks for your help!

Ps: I love your wedding pictures!

The second dress is an Alma Novia from the 2012 collection, you can check with these two boutiques to see if you can find the actual dress.

and i think the off the shoulder lace is just a bolero. See the flickr sites above. the actual designer's site doesn't have the old collection anymore but in the pics, you can see the bling from the first dress under the lace. I think it's this dress and the bolero you can easily find on Etsy or probably a local bridal boutique.

I don't recommend buying a dress from a Chinese knock off site.
