pick ups

Are gowns with pick ups outdated?

Re: pick ups

  • They're on their way out.  Most designers don't make them anymore.

  • Even when they were "in" I hated them.

BUT, just because something may not be the "in" thing doesn't mean that should stop you from choosing a dress that you love.  If that means that you love pick-ups and want a gown with them then go for it.  Styles come and go all. of. the. time.  I wore a one shoulder gown which I know will be "out of date" in a year or two.  Did that stop me from picking the dress?  Heck no.  I LOVED it and will only look back at my pictures with happy memories.

  • When my sister was shopping for her dress in 2009, the shop owner looked at her and said "Pick ups?  NO.  Pickups are OUT."  Haha.
  • I love them, but when I tried on my dream dress with them, I looked like a birthday cake!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • When I first started dress shopping, I said absolutely no to pick ups because I didn't care fot he look. But then I found an amazing dress that made me feel like a bride and it just happens to have pick ups. So oh well. Go in with an open mind. You never know what you'll end up with!
  • I wish they were out...

It does depend a lot on where you're from.

For example, if I were to see a picture of a bride in a gown with pickups, I would assume she got married in 2006-2008.

It doesn't mean you shouldn't wear a dress with pickups if you love it, but it just was a very popular trend a few years ago.
  • Not that I regret my dress in the slightest, but does my dress have pickups? Or is the bottom a different style? I bought my dress summer of 2011 and was married summer of 2012.

Thanks for the clarification! I was pretty sure my dress had something else, but I had always called it pickups for a lack of a better word.

My dress has them - and I actually like them. I think the style works well for my bodytype.
I'm also not exactly on the leading edge of fashion - I just kind of wing it and go with the flow haha.

  • Wow, I had no idea they had ever been "in style" or were on their way out. I was completely obsessed with them when I started trying on dresses, and while I wound up with a dress that didn't have them, I still LOVE them! If you love them, go for it.
  • Pickups are not outdated, they are just now coming out in the magazines with pickups & a twist on the traditional pickup look.  Check it out, anyways, who cares what is in or not, if you love it, get it!!!!!

  • I wasn't open to try them at first but ultimately it's what I chose and it is an amazing beautiful gown. Just go with what you love and feel beautiful in :)

<div>If they are coming back out in magazines as you claim, then that's not exactly being a "trendsetter". </div><div>
