Am I the only one?

I have about 15 months until my wedding, so there's plently of time to worry about this later; but I was wondering...

Am I the only bride who put the dress last on her priority list?  I know it's supposed to be a big deal, but I just don't care.

I'm excited and having fun planning the dinner, reception, and after party.  I'm more concerned about my family and friends having fun, than I am about what I'm wearing.

Re: Am I the only one?

  • No, I knew a bride who took her first shopping trip two months before her wedding. She'd planned all along to get something off the rack at DB, and wasn't too picky about what it was.

I'd start looking in another 6-8 months or so when you have some other details figured out. Not that you HAVE to, but some dresses do take a while to come in, and I'd hate for you to find a dress you're crazy over and not be able to get it.
  • No, I got engaged 2 months ago and my wedding is just under a year away now.  We wanted to get all the important stuff booked before I ever started looking at dresses.  I just went to look at dresses for the first time this past Saturday.  I still plan on taking my time though, I have almost a year to go, I'm not in a hurry.

  • Nope. I bought mine on ebay for almost nothing and intend to sell it on ebay when I'm done. lol@aerin!
  • I am with you on this.  I did NOT want to go dress shopping.  I was convinced that I was just going to find a dress from DB after one day of shopping.  But I ended up making an appointment at a bridal salon first.  When the girl at the bridal salon suggested that it might take me more than one day of dress shopping to find a dress, I was like WHAT.  But the girl at the bridal shop was fabulous.  I ended up trying on dresses over a three day span and bought a dress at that shop.  Turns out the DB that I went to had terrible customer service (not a comment about DB in general, just this particular store).

Believe me, I still feel like three days of dress shopping was excessive for me, but at least I can check "Find dress" off of my list, lol.

  • I am a person that loves to shop, but I didn't want to go wedding gown shopping AT ALL.  I felt sick on the way there and started hyperventalating when I put on my first dress.

After that I was okay and I enjoyed the process more.  I bought my dress after only trying on about a dozen dresses.

  • Thank you for making me feel better...my family and friends think I'm nuts.
  • Don't leave it until a month before.  All dresses need hemming and your seamstress will thank you for the heads up.  So will the other people who brought theirs in early to get altered but have to wait for the last minute bride's dress to finish.  I've been waiting over a month to get in for my second fitting because they do alterations in order of wedding date and there were 2 people that jumped in line ahead of me after my first fitting.  It's irritating.
  •  I was nice to go and get my dress, but I am diffidently more excited for all the planning that my fh and I can do together.
