Thoughts on matching fabric...?

So ugh.  I'm having LOTS of trouble it seems finding bridesmaids dresses.  My wedding dress is chiffon, and I was thinking it would be nice if my bridesmaids wore a dress also in chiffon.  The trouble is that I haven't been able to find a chiffon dress that's the right color (aqua), style, or price.  It's like it's one or the other. The other issue is that two girls are in TX, one is in FL, and I'm in VT, so I'm also looking for something that's reasonably easy to purchase. So, my question here is, would it look awkward to have them in a fabric different than mine?  Say Taffeta or Satin?  There appear to be a lot more options in those choices.

Just from reading through the posts, you all seem extremely resourceful and helpful.  I hope you have some advice for me, and thank you in advance!

Re: Thoughts on matching fabric...?

  • I agree the fabric of the BM dresses doesn't have to match your dress fabric but the formality of your event. I also think it looks best if they are going to wear different style dresses that the fabric of the BM dresses match.

Also going through a place like David's Bridal is probably best to make sure your girls have the opportunity to go try on a dress style and make sure it fits well before ordering. Hope it helps!
  • My bridesmaids didn't have the same fabric as my gown. I let them choose between three designers :) Also makes for great pictures!!!
  • thank you for all the input ladies.  after reading your posts and doing some more research, i've decided that fabrics do not have to be matching, and i'll have a lot more choices if they aren't.  so the next step is finding the right dress...
