Help!!! Should I add straps to my dress??

I have always said that I would not buy a strapless wedding dress, but I did. I have no boobs so straps are sort of a must to me to hold the dress up.  They were having a sample sale at the bridal shop and I fell in love with this dress so I bought it...but its totally different than a dress that I wanted. I wanted a lace dress with cap sleeves and keyhole back...So now I am wanting to add straps to my wedding dress, but I am afraid that it won't look right...and I don't want spaghetti straps. I have to get my dress taken in kind of a lot, and the lady at the bridal shop told me they could add straps with some of the material underneath the dress but I'm not in love with that thin shear material. I have thought about adding maybe capsleeves, some thick straps or maybe a bolero. Do you think it would look okay? and does anyone know where to buy these at??

THis is my dress:

I think it could work if did it out of the same fabric as the belt. I'd try either a cap sleeve or a wider strap. A sheer Bolero could look cute.

They can drape the frabric over your shoulder when you go for your fitting in a variety of ways to help give you a visual. It's a beautiful dress!

  • When I was in the shops they were able to drape fabric in various ways to give me an idea how different straps look like before you do anything permanent!  This is how I found out cap sleeves or off the shoulder straps really don't look as good as I thought they would on me.  And that a halter strap looks awesome, and straight straps look ok.  Granted the straps would just be for look and not structural suport.  If you are thinking thin straps and expect them to hold the dress up, that may not be a good plan as them digging into your shoulders may look off and be uncomfortable.  If the dress has enough boning in it it shouldn't matter too much how much boob you do or don't have, it should stay up.

I don't have any boobs either and made the same assumption but found that strapless dresses were actually what fit me best.  My gown also came from a sample sale!  Just take your gown to the seamstress and she will be able to show you different options and help you decide what's going to work best for you.  Regardless, with the right undergarments (or cups sewn in) the seamstress will know what to do to ensure that your dress fits properly and you won't have any worries when you wear it.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

I wore a very similar style by Melissa Sweet. I have no chest either, and the seamstress was able to work miracles with some cups and boning. My dress stayed secure (it was super tight at the beginning of the night and eventually loosened up) and didn't fall down and i didnt have to tug at it. PPs are right- the sleeves may not add the structural support you are looking for. If you decide to go strapless, I'm sure they can make it work. FWIW, Here was my dress: http://www.onewed.com/photos/show/melissa-sweet-wedding-dresses-wallis Good luck! Your dress is gorgeous!

  • thanks yau'll! :)
  • See I have the opposite issue, Im very well endowed and prefer to have straps or sleeves too worried I'll either be pulling up the dress all night or if I lean over it, I'll be playing "peek a boo" which I don't want to do.  So glad to hear that when trying on dresses the shop can show you how straps and such will look.
