Boots... Yea or Nay?

This month I will be making an appointment for alterations for my dress and need to decide on shoes. My wedding will be outside in the summer at a ranch on fairly uneven ground so I have already decided my usual tall heels won't work this time. I was trying to find some low heels or flats until I found a pair of cowboy boots in one of my colors! My maids love the idea, but my mom hates it. I'm also concerned about how they would look under my dress, which is a-line with a long train. Should I or shouldn't I?

Re: Boots... Yea or Nay?

  • I think it depends.  Are the cowboy boots "you" or are they just in it for the day.  If it's something you normally wear and people see you in them and think it's natural, then go for it!  If it's not something you'd normally wear and it's just to look "ranchy" I think it would be better to go a low wedge or a flat.

Also, decent (re: comfortable) cowboy boots are very pricey.  Think $200+.

Habs took the words right out of my mouth.

I do not think they are appropriate unless you wear them on a regular basis.
  • My Future SIL is probabl going to wear boots under her dress. She would not be comfortable nor look like herself if she didn't. If the same applies to you, then go for it. boots can take longer to get accustomed to and broken in if you are not already used to wearing them.

  • I wear boots almost everyday so it was a natural choice for to choose boots for my wedding shoes. BUT like PP's have said, if you don't wear them on regular basis it would look akward.

  • Since you said "usual tall heels," it doesn't sound like boots are a standard thing with you.  In that case, I'd look for a nice wedge or a lower heel.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I like boots under a wedding dress IF it fits the brides personality. If you wouldn't normally wear them it makes it look like you are trying too hard.

  • To clarify: "usual tall heels" because boots are not appropriate where I work, this is not my first pair of boots--they are "me," and money is not a problem here. I'm going to try them on with my dress and return them if they look off. Thanks for the input! I appreciate it!
  • If boots are you go for it.  I saw an episode of David Tutera's My Fair Wedding where the bride lived in her boots.  She had bought a pair of pink cowboy boots that she said she HAD to wear under her dress.  David wasn't thrilled about it at first but in the end it turned out PERFECT.  The bride was thrilled and the pink boots under her more simple dress fit together great with her outdoor wedding.
