if you had a tulle skirt: how hot was it?

I'm planning for a (mostly) outdoor summer wedding in New England and am concerned about being too hot in the dress I pick, so the fabric is a concern.

How hot are layers of tulle? The person at the store said the layers allow air to circulate, making the full tulle ball gown skirt more breathable. Someone else said she felt like she was wrapped in plastic wrap with layers of tulle that filled out her skirt.

For what it is worth, the other dress I'm considering is a fit & flare made of a light taffeta: fewer layers of fabric total but more solid fabric and more fitted. I really like both dresses and am using some practical reasoning to help me decide. Thanks for sharing!

Re: if you had a tulle skirt: how hot was it?

  • StageManager, I can't imagine adding a petticoat to the already full skirt! However, it sort of had one built in, with a lower quality tulle. There was a lining, so I don't think that layer would be right next to my skin, but the five or six (lost count) top layers of the skirt likely would stick the way you describe. Good to hear.

Feel free to keep information coming ladies. I'll check back.
  • I've heard that having an underskirt (or hoopskirt as someone else mentioned), will keep the tulle from coming in between your legs as you walk and then sticking. Even though it might add weight, it might help eliminate other problems. I'm also trying to figure this delima out because my ballgown style dress is 11 layers of tulle and I'm getting married outside, in May, in humid TN.
