Attire for Best Man, Ushers, etc.

I need a bit of help from my fellow knotties...ok, so my fiance wants to wear a dark charcoal grey suit as opposed to a black suit. My maid of honor's dress will be navy. I am just not sure what color the best man, the ushers and my father and stepfather should wear. I am not sure if they should all match or if it will look okay if one wears like a light grey suit or a navy suit. Help!!

  • I'd stick with the dark grey suit all around.  Its a nice color.  If you wanted to add in light grey or navy you could have them wear a tie with those colors.  If you don't want them all to match have your fiance wear a vest or something like that.

  • It's a wise choice opting for grey over black. Charcoal or medium grey will look great with whatever accessory colors you pair. Navy would be equally suitable. (Pun intended.)

Black is commonly considered to be too somber a color for a lounge suit worn at a wedding. (Note that tuxedos worn at a black tie affair are a whole different ball of wax.) Esquire Magazine, a reputable source for men's style, doesn't recommend black as an "essential" suit color. (http://www.esquire.com/style/foursuits0607). If one of your gents needs to purchase a new suit, he'll get more mileage from charcoal grey or navy.

We're giving our gents the choice of either charcoal grey or navy blue. In my opinion, the party need not (and really should not) all match. That makes it look too much like "Barbie & Ken's Dream Wedding" for my taste.
