cost of alterations- is this average?

I live in San Diego. I just got a quote to alter my dress and I have no idea if this is average or expensive. Could someone please give me some guidance....

hem: $135
cups: $25
bustle: $85
taking in the dress (it was very big): $80.

That sounds about what mine was and I had the same alterations.  You should post this on the SD board just to see what they say.

That sounds pretty normal if you're having it done through the bridal salon.  However, you may want to check with your local board to find out whether there are independent seamstresses in your area that people can recommend.  There are a couple in the DC area who get glowing reviews from brides, and who charge much less than the bridal salons.

If you do this though, make sure they have experience with wedding dresses.  My regular seamstress told me that she won't go near them because they can be way too complicated and she doesn't have that king of time to dedicate to one dress.

My alterations and bustle were $350 and that was in central Ohio. I believe the bustle was $75 or $85 and the alterations were the rest. But like pp said, this is something that is going to vary across the country, so you may also want to ask around on your local board.
