Corset or no corset?

So I finally found my fabulous strapless, princess dress! It has comfy, built-in cups and a rubber liner to keep things firmly in place. With all that, is a corset or strapless bra just another expense? I'm not worried about the shapewear aspect of a corset. The dress laces up the back. I'm pretty busty as-is, I don't want something making me look bigger if I don't have to.

Thoughts? I don't know much about the "science" of lingerie. All help is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Corset or no corset?

  • I have a backless strapless gown and I am not wearing anything under my dress it has a lot of support built in. I'm not very busty through but I would try on your dress wtih nothing under and move around and dance and jump and see if you fall out or move and if not I bet your fine!

  • I agree with pp. You have to try it on without anything. I will probably not wear anything, but I'm pretty small on top.
  • If it already has built-in cups, don't worry about any extra shapewear.  Mine is a corset back as well, and the only thing I'm doing is the built-ins.  The lace-up back will do the rest for you.  :)
  • A lot of dresses now are made to fully support you without any additional undergarments.  It sounds like yours is designed to be worn wihout a bra or corset.  So try it on without, and see if you feel like you're supported enough:-)

  • If you already have a corset back, an actual corset won't really be helpful and would be uncomfortable.  It'd basicly be wearing two corsets on top of each other.  ><

I would try it on without anything to see how it feels.  If it doesn't feel very secure, a strapless bra would probally be all you need.

  • If it already has cups you can skip the bra. Try it on to make sure, but once it is fitted correctly you should be fine without one.
