I'm starting my research for bridesmaid dresses and I'm looking for some advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Although I haven't officially asked anyone yet, I have the members of my wedding party in mind. My two concerns are style and price.
My bridesmaids will be of varying shapes and sizes including at least one bridesmaid who is on the short side and a little larger in size. Based on other posts, I'm leaning toward the idea of choosing a color, fabric, length, and designer and telling each bridesmaid to choose a dress.
My wedding will not be a ballroom event; however, I did hope to keep it classy and elegant. Originally, I was leaning toward satin dresses since the wedding will most likely be in September, but now I'm leaning toward chiffon because I'm wondering if it will be more forgiving. What do you think? (The satin worries me because at some weddings, I've seen larger girls that look like sausages.)
The length is also an issue. Again, I was leaning more toward floor length dresses because I think it would look nice and be more elegant. In addition, when I first started looking, the tea length or knee length dresses seemed more casual to me (especially if the bride wears a ballgown), but it seems to be trendy right now and I'm starting to change my view. The other thing about a shorter dress is that there is more of a chance the girls could wear it again. (I know the "wear it again" theory is mostly mythical, but if there's a chance I'd like them to have that opportunity.) So what are your thoughts on length? And do larger, petite girls look better in short or long dresses?
Finally, I could use some help narrowing down the designers. I would like to keep things as inexpensive as possible for the girls, but I also don't want their dresses to look cheap. What suggestions do you have for relatively inexpensive designers where I can allow my bridesmaids to have some individuality, but still look like a cohesive wedding party?
I know that eventually, I'm going to have to talk to each bridesmaid about cost and styles, but I'd like to have an idea of what I want before having that conversation, so please help if you can.
