Bridemaid dress length

I am having short bridesmaid dresses and I have bridesmaids of very different heights. 5'9, 5'3, 5'2, and 5'10.  Does it look weird if they all have their dress hemmed to their knee, but they aren't on the same line straight across? Or is it better to have them all hemmed on the same line, making the shorter girls dresses shorter on them than the taller girls?

  • Don't have them hemmed straight across. Then your 5'2" girls will be wearing minis while your 5'10" girl will be wearing something below the knee.

If you want some uniformity, have them hem it all to the same point (like the knee, or two inches below the knee, or whatever). But really, it doesn't matter. I didn't specify a hem length for my gals and they all looked great anyway.
  • I think it would look weird to have the dresses cut along one line, anyway.

I've never noticed where the girls' hems fall in relation to each other.  I only noticed the hems on my own girls because for the ceremony, the ones who picked short dresses all more or less lined up, even though they came from different designers without consulting each other and I'm pretty sure no one took them in to get hemmed.

Honestly, I think it would look strange if they all lined up perfectly.  Very unnatural.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I would have them hemmed for the girl. They will be most comfortable this way. Plus,  no one will be looking at your pictures and judging you because the bridemaids dresses don't make a straight line.
  • Also (this just came to me): if you get them hemmed in a straight line, they'll only be in a straight line when they're all standing on a level surface. The minute they move anywhere else, they won't be level anymore. So what's the point?
  • Same hemline

  • I would notice it MORE if all the bridesmaids' dresses made a perfectly straight line while standing side-by-side, and not in a good way. I'd probably think it was really odd.  If they all come to the girls' knees, it will look much more natural and cohesive than if one's wearing a mini, one's wearing knee-length, and another tea-length, you know?
    This knottie's been ransacked, suckas!
  • I know I had to wear a long one and I am 5'1 and everyone else was 5'9+ and I looked awful in it. My girls are different heights and we're doing tea length...I may have the taller girls hem theres just a little!
