Dress Rental

I recently discovered websites that you can actuallly rent your wedding dress. What are your thoughts on this?
Bad idea? Why?
Awesome idea? How do you do it?

Re: Dress Rental

  • I looked at this for my Vegas wedding (since we are coming from overseas) and I found most of the rental places I looked at (specific to Vegas) didn't really have a lot of nice dresses and the prices were very similar to buying a secondhand dress or a sale dress. Mostly you had to be a stock standard size becuase they either didn't allow alterations or charged a bomb if you wanted it altered. The fact some places allowed alterations made me think that they dresses might have been altered numerous times and I was worried about the wear and tear on the dress.
I think my biggest worry was not being able to go into until right before my wedding (since i am overseas) and them not having a dress etc. But I guess if they are local to you and you can go in and check the quality/wear and tear of the dresses it might be ok? Hopefully someone else can give you more details.
  • If it works for you, go ahead and do it.  I would worry about it being clean.
  • I looked into it when I fist got engaged. I lin in Buffalo and looked at a couple places that rent dresses in Toronto. The selection was 'ehh', and it didn't seem like that much of a deal. The pricing seemed to be, the rental cost of half the retail price of the dress. Most of the rentals I looked about were still about 7-900. Didn't seem worth it. I ended up getting one at a sample sale. Check your area, you may have a better selection where you live.
  • I looked into it, but it was at least $500 (most expensive dress in the store was $1500) and there was a limited selection of styles and sizes. For the cost of renting, you can buy a new dress or buy a preowned dress (oncewed.com, bravobride.com, preownedweddingdresses.com).
