Opposite of what I wanted!

I bought my dress recently and I though I'd go with a poofy (which is what I told everyone I was going to get) dress with no train and I didn't want a veil and ended up getting the COMPLETE opposite! I went to Bridal Boutique in Lewisville, Tx and my consultant was AMAZING! She grabbed a dress by Sophia Tolli (called Xandra) that I thought I would try on to be nice (I did not like it on the hanger). I tried it on and I could not believe it: my fifth dress in and I found it already! I just wanted to know who else out there got a dress the complete opposite of what they thought they wanted?

I got the shape that I wanted, but I am the bling-queen normally so I thought I would want something with a high amount of detail and sparkle. I ended up with a gown that had very little sparkly detail.

Also thought I wanted a birdcage veil. Tried one on and didn't like it so I went with a fingertip length instead.

Glad you found your dress! Looks beautiful :)

Me!  I thought I'd want something simple & plain.  But ended up with a very dramatic skirt & train, with pearls under ever tier.  Galina Signature SWG9902.  Funny thing I thought it was not cute at all on the hanger either, but my consultant picked it out & I tried it on to be nice.  Ended up leaving with it that day!  Congrats on finding "The One"

Oh man, I went in looking for something simple.
Maybe a little poofy on the bottom.
I tell you I tried on 50+ dresses, the manager at Alfred Angelo said she was gonna put me in her favorite, which was lace(I didn't even wanna touch lace), slightly form fitting(I HATE my hips) with a beautiful train. I fell in love, I didn't want to take it off!
I never imagined myself in something like that and I can't wait to see the faces of my family when they see me, because that is definitely not what people would expect me to wear.

Your dress is BEAUTIFUL. And you look amazing.
    Congrats.

    That is beautiful!

I also got a dress somewhat different than what I wanted. I wanted a more fitted dress with the little flare at the bottom. I knew I wanted lace detailing as well. Well my consultant put me in more of a ball gown dress with lace detailing and I fell in love. :)

    Your dress is gorgeous!

I ended up with something pretty close to what I was envisioning. The only thing I hadn't expected was falling in love with an all-over lace dress--I didn't have anything against lace, but I wasn't looking for it, either.

I went into the dress shopping experience wanting a complete lace gown with straps and a full open back and a semi body hugging shape (no poof at all).  Well as you can see in my sig pic I ended up with a one shoulder satin gown with a slight poof and an elaborate train.

It is amazing how for so many years I dreamt of a certain style dress and then how easily I was able to throw that vision out the window as soon as I tried my dress on.

I went shopping looking for an extremely simple dress. No beading, no train....maybe just a flower on the sash or a sash in a color.....I tried on a few, nothing really appealed to me.

My consultant asked me to try one on that she chose, and brought me a satin, a-line dress with pearl and crystal beading, and a train. I took one look, and said no. She asked me to just try it. She turned my back to the mirror in the fitting room, got me into it, and led me out to the triple mirror...put me on the pedestal, and said, open your eyes. I did and gasped. She said, how do you feel in this one?  My response, like a bride. For the first time.

It isn't anything like I thought I'd wear, but it's the one I chose.

You look glowing in your gown! Clearly, you choose the right one, even if it's different that you had imagined! Well done for branching out!

I got some things that I knew I wanted (drop waist, sweertheart neckline) but I did NOT think I would end up with a full skirt. I thought I would have something more fitted, but I looooove my dress :)

</div><div>I wear a size 14 dress and I didn't think that I would want something so form fitting either and I was worried about my hips too! Thats why I was so suprised when that dress was on!

I just said yes to the dress today! I tried on about 50 dresses (very indecisive!) and thought I wanted an A-Line straight dress with minimal train. I got more of a ballgown dress with slight pickups but I am happy! I think the reason it took so long was because I had this vision of myself in something and it was hard to commit to not getting what I had envisioned all along. Congrats to you as well!

I thought I'd wind up in some uber-sophisticated, going-to-the-Oscars gown and fell in love with one by Romona Keveza, but it didnt feel right. I wound up with a more romantic dress covered in silk flowers. You never know!

My daughters is completely the opposite from what she wanted.

I wanted a white dress.  Beads on the top, tulle on the bottom.  No rouching.

I ended up with an ivory organza dress, no beading, and the entire gown is rouched.  I added a beaded belt to get some beading in there (we'd removed some flowers the dress came with).  Completely different than what I thought I wanted but I didn't want to take it off!

Congrats!  You look great in that dress.
Sometimes I feel like the only one who ended up in the dress I knew I'd love.  Somehow I knew what was going to look good on me, and when I started dress shopping, the ones that had caught my eye were the ones that looked the best!  I tried on some different ones just for S's and G's, but I ended up finding the dress I had been in love with for a year and it ended up being absolutely perfect.  I hear a lot of the opposite on this board!

I really wanted ruffles and ended up with a tulle skirt instead. This caused me to agonize for weeks. I probably tried on upwards of 100 dresses, easily. But I'm happy with my selection!
