Bridal Underwear for Trumpet Style Dress

I was wondering what kind of underwear should be worn underneath a trumpet style dress.  I'm looking for something for a strapless push-up support that will also hold me in.  I've tried Spanx (the kind with the shorts) but it is so uncomfortable and unattractive!  Do you have any recommendations for bridal shapewear/lingerie that is flattering without showing underneath my very fitted dress?

Re: Bridal Underwear for Trumpet Style Dress

  • I have a trumpet dress as well, I had bra cups sewn into my dress for 2 reasons.  One, because it's hard to hide a longline bra under a fitted dress, and two, because it's hard to hide a longline bra underneath a dress with a keyhole back!

I have Donna Karan "spanx" to wear on the bottom.  I wanted something to suck me in just a little bit, but I'm not sure if I'll wear them or not. I didn't find them uncomfortable at all, but I agree that they're not the prettiest things out there.   I'm kind of thinking about a garter belt and stockings, but I'm not sure how that will look under the dress either.  I just think it would be prettier than spanx.  Still undecided on the lower half.

  • I think I will get cups sewn in too. I saw victoria secret had a spanx like tummy control thing that was a thong. I have no idea if it would be comfortable though.

  • I had cups sewn in and wore the VS seamless lace panties in nude.
  • Where do you find the cups to sew into the dresses?  Do these still have enough "push-up" to them?

Ask your seamstress what she can do. She should be able to give you a couple of options and help you decide what would work best.

  • I don't know what cup size you are...I'm pretty busty so I had to get a shelf bra and I have a trumpet-style dress. The underskirt is a pain but it's tight enough that it's pretty similar to the skirt style of the dress so it's not that bad. The shelf bra I have is a bit of a pain but my cups are secure and comfy in it... I'm looking for containment rather than push up though so I think having your seamstress sew cups in is a great idea (and it might actually be smart to see if she can sew in petals too into the cups so you don't have to worry if it gets cold in the room...not to be fresh but it's good not to worry about that!)

  • I had cups sewn in. They come in different sizes and shapes... My seamstress wound up using two and folding one in half to create the push up. Remember your dress is going to be really snug at first and that will add to the push up too.

Any seamstress can sew in the cups. And, as PP said, the seastress may be able to sew in a push-up cup. In they just offer a regular cup, you can add volume by purchasing "cutlets" (bra inserts) at any department store or VS. They will add 1-2 cup sizes, depending on which ones you buy. I used cutlet inside of a strapless bra.
  • I am wearing a nude lace thong and my seamstress is seeing in cups also. Remember, you can always change into your fancy lingere after you get out of your dress :)
