Where my tall brides at? Shoe and veil questions...

Hey girls, I have a problem. Well, a few, actually :) First, to preface everything, I am six feet tall without shoes on--inch for inch, the exact same height as my fiance. I adore heels, and I usually wear 3 or 4 inch ones to go out, so he ends up being a fair bit shorter than me. Now, he's awesome and doesn't care that I'm taller than him (one guy I went out with had HUGE issues about that--dumped him!) but I thought it would be nice for him to be taller than me for once. So I bought a pair of very pretty copper flats. (Our wedding colors are eggplant, copper and chocolate brown.) Here are the shoes:

Cute, girly, and practical. I was pretty happy with them. But then I started looking around (never a good idea) and seeing shoes like these:

And now I'm soooooooo annoyed that I'm so damn tall, because I WANT to wear something super cute and beautiful and sexy. I've always felt prettiest when I'm wearing tall shoes, and I'm worried that wearing flats will make me feel too casual, not like a bride.

Do any of you tall ladies have suggestions? Tricks to make yourself look shorter or your man look taller? And to everybody else, what would you think of a 6'4" bride and a 6' groom? I don't want to look weird in pictures...:(

My other question is less of a problem, just a decision I'm having a hard time making, which is: no veil, fingertip veil, or cathedral veil? I'm not sure if I want to wear one--I'm wearing a big flower with feathers in my hair at the reception, but my mom is pretty insistent that I should wear a veil during the ceremony, and I'm not totally against the idea. But I don't know if a cathedral one would overwhelm my dress. Here's a picture of me in the dress (and shoes) with a fingertip veil on:

(Never mind that the dress doesn't fit around the boobs, it was just the sample and wasn't my size.) I'm thinking that I could get away with the dramatic long veil if I wanted to, because the dress is dramatic and I'm super tall--but I want a second opinion. What do you ladies think?

Thanks for reading my ridiculously long post!

  • Lovely dress!  If you want to do a cathedral veil, I would say it would look fine with that dress, and you are pretty tall, so you'll look fine.  As for the shoes - will you be comfortable in those shoes for all those hours, dancing and walking around and not sitting much?  And will you look at the pictures later and think, "I wish I had worn flats, I'm so much taller than he is!" If so, you may want to go with the flats and get the cute heels for something after the wedding.

  • Your dress is beautiful!  I don't think I'd wear a cathedral veil -- maybe a fingertip-length.  And you really will be happy if you wear flats.  I'm wearing short heels as well (I'm 5'9" and FI is 6", so heels would have made me taller than him), and think of it this way -- your feet will thank you the day after!

  • I think a cathedral length veil would look great. I like to see a veil on a bride, it just seems to complete the "bridal" look to me.

As for shoes, H and I are the exact same height as well and I was determined not to be taller than him on our wedding day. I personally wouldn't be comfortable in taller shoes all night anyway, so I figured the tux shoes would give him an inch or two of height and I ended up with 2 3/4" heels. I was ever so slightly taller than him on our wedding day, but the difference was so small it was barely noticeable. If you really like heels, maybe you could compromise with a lower heel? Although I do really like the shoes you bought already.
  • I'm tall as well and the same height as my fiance. I decided to wear flats since my dress is floor length so no one will see my shoes anyway. some brides wear flats but buy a cute pair of heels for some of the more stylized pictures of shoes that some photogs take.

  • I am about 1.5" taller than my guy.  For once I want the difference to be minimal, so for the ceremony I plan on wearing ballet flats or some such shoe.  However, I LOVE heels, so I think I might buy bright fushia or magenta heels for the reception.  I figure that by that time everyone will have a few drinks, pics will be over and no one will notice if my hem is allowing my totally fabulous shoes to peek out.

I am tall as well and FI and I are about the same height. He doesn't have an issue with me wearing the heels; but for the pics- I'd prefer us to be the same height. His shoes will add 13/4 inch so I can wear a little bit of heel; but my dress is also long, so I don't think it matters much. I love the flats you bought! Very cute! My veil is chapel length and I say go with the one you love.
  • My FI and I are about the same height and I want to be shorter than he is. The only time that happens is if he has shoes on and I don't, so I thought about going barefoot. I changed my mind though and I am planning on wearing slides. They have about a 1" heel so we will probably be the same height. I'm still considering going barefoot for pictures though.

  • I'm 5'10" and already taller than my FI and I am like you I love my 3-4" heels.  they make me feel so pretty.  But a 6'2" bride and 5'9" groom would look really strange.  So I'm wearing flats too. I do plan to change just after the reception before heading to the hotel so that is when I plan to rock the gorgeous 4" heels I found. Even if it only for 20 min!

BTW I love the heels you found.

I am sticking with a fingertip veil but mostly because i've never been a fan of cathedral veils.
