now, heres my problem .. with the band being made of just stretchy lace, i am having a hard time keeping from falling off.  any suggestions on how to keep it up?

Re: keeping my garter up.

  • havent thought of that, just sew it on there, ya think?  the main thing is i want it to be simple and not ruffly, and the idea just isnt seeming as practical as beautiful.  :(

  • Couple of things - are you sizing the stretch lace to your actual leg size, or are you making it slightly smaller?  With elastic/stretch fabrics, you want to utilize that stretch in the final product, as it helps keep the garment in place.  I also second using a little additional elastic help (sew it while keeping it stretched some, to help increase tension).  Probably the clear/non-slip elastic will be your best bet for something like this(maybe a strip of clear elastic at the top and bottom).  You might want to do a couple of trial runs, but I think what you're looking for is do-able.

One thing to remember: The wedding is just one day. The marriage is all the rest of them.

[QUOTE]Double-sided tape, if you don't want to use elastic?  I can't think of any other alternative.

i sized it smaller than my leg, its just that the lace is so soft and silky, it just kinda slips off.  if i had hairy legs, i bet it would stay.  haha.  i was thinking about getting some clear elastic and trying that.  i got forever til the wedding, so getting a bunch of elastic and lace & practicing shouldnt be a problem.  :)  thanks!

  • All joking about double-sided tape aside, I'd definitely use it.  My garter was elasticized and although I had slender legs at the time (Ohhh, newlywed 20, how I hate you so effing much), it hurt like crazy.  If I had thought to go looser and use double stick tape, I definitely would have.
  • I actually put mine on about 2 minutes before we did the toss. Elastic was itchy, and it wasn't like anyone would know if I was wearing it until  then.
