Mother of the Bride dress...which one?

My mother is fuller figured and is having trouble deciding between two dresses.  She is petite, 5'0", but her biggest "problem" area is her stomach.
Which one do you think would be more flattering on her?  I think they both look beautiful, but she is so indecisive.

  • Sorry the pics don't come up, but if you click on the link it will work.
  • This first pic comes up really small, so it is hard to tell the details of the dress. However, I don't really like the second dress much at all. And it also doesn't look like it would be very forgiving. It would be best to have something with some structure on the top. Generally, I think a two piece outfit would be best for someone with a fuller figure instead of a dress. IIs there a way to see the first dress in a bigger pic?

the first one is more forgiving, but what about a wrap type dress? dresses that are asymmetrically draped tend to flatter women who don't have perfect stomachs.

btw, BBC code doesn't work in the forums any more. just pasting the links is fine. if you want pics actually in the post, you have to save them to your computer then use the insert picture icon at the bottom of the text box (looks like a tree) to insert the picture.

  • I actually like the first dress better. But then again, I love blue. I love the top of the first dress, I don't like the second dress at all.

I agree with the pp that the second dress doesn't look that forgiving. On SYTTD, I always hear that fuller figured women should go for a dress with ruching. So, again to ditto the pp, maybe a side draped dress would be best. It's also very pretty, IMO.

I always think separates would look nice and possibly be very forgiving. Not to rag on my mom or anything but she's very economical and she chose a dress OTR at DB. It was not flattering at all although it was a pretty dress. Even without tummy tucking lingerie on underneath, she hates looking at herself in the wedding pictures. So that is why it is very important to find a flattering dress rather than just a pretty dress. Therefore, maybe continue looking?

  • it looks like the first one could be okay for your mom. I do love the dress [color and everything] now that I can see it better. :) but like the others said, there might be more forgiving dresses out there.

pooh 8402, thanks for the info about posting pics - I was wondering myself!
