Wedding Day Jewelry?

I've been starting to look for jewelry (I figured since I'm in school and the wedding is in July this is something I can get done fairly easily).  I've been looking on sites like overstock.com and have found some pretty nice jewelry for decent prices, but I was wondering: is it cheap of me to want to buy cheap jewelry? I can't afford anything super nice, but is this something I should spend the money on?

Re: Wedding Day Jewelry?

  • Your jewellery needs to be affordable and you need to be able to fit it into your budget. Don't spend more than you can afford and stick to your budget!
You deserve to have everything perfect on your wedding day of course. Choose jewellery that gives you the "look" that you truly want and will make you look your best in your dress and in your photos. There is no need to spend more than you can afford there is so much pretty jewellery out there that are at great prices.
I hope you find just what you are looking for.

This is strictly my opinion: I would rather borrow something nice than buy a cheap necklace.  I didn't buy any jewlery for my wedding - I used pieces that I already owned.  My grandmother gifted my sister and I pearl necklaces as children so that went on.  I had gold drop earrings from one Christmas so I wore that as well.

That being said, there is nothing wrong with jewlery from Overstock!  They have nice jewelry!
  • I'm just getting some stuff off Etsy; it's all between $25 and $45 and it isn't very showy. Get what you can afford, it doesn't have to be expensive to be pretty.

I'm more minimal on jewelry.  I will have my ring of course, and I'm thinking of diamond studs.  My dress has some sparkle on it, I don't want to over do it.

A good price and cheap is two completely different things.  I wouldn't wear anything that looked like costume jewelry.
  • Not to hijack the thread but is it more traditional to wear pearl type jewlery as a bride? I don't have any pearls but do have a nice diamond bracelet and pendent necklace that I would like to wear. Haven't gotten my dress yet, but was curious. I'd imagine as long as what you get goes nicely with your dress and isn't distracting, who cares if it's real or expensive?

  • I agree with what PP said - there is a difference between a good price and something being "cheap".  All my jewelry is made from Swarovski crystals and was either handmade by my mother or purchased from etsy.

Borrowing from someone is nice, but unfortunately not everyone has that option.  My family simply isn't into jewlery, I don't even have any nice pieces I could ask to borrow.

I'd buy what you can afford, and not worry about it - most people aren't going to know the difference anyways.  A friend of mine wore a 4 carat diamond tear pendant on her wedding day (borrowed from her husband's grandmother) and I thought it fake because of its size, although it was a superbly nice piece of jewelry.

  • I wore a necklace and earring set from Etsy, and my bracelet was from Claire's.  I don't regularly wear jewelry, so it wouldn't have been worth it to buy anything expensive that I would never wear again.
  • I didn't wear a necklace, and my earrings were CZ from etsy, but I got many comments on how beautiful they were. Don't buy something you can't afford. Find something to borrow or get more affordable "fake" jewelry.
  • I agree with what everyone else is saying.
I also didn't want to spend a lot of money but wanted something pretty as well. I saw a bracelet made with swarovski crystals and pearls and was very pretty but cost $220! There was no way I was paying that.
Therefore, I decided to google how to make jewellery, since the style was easy enough cluster bracelet) and I also researched different places for pricing, like ebay, artbeads.com, etc.
I'm still waiting for some larger beads I ordered but is pretty much done, and I have to say I was pretty impressed how it turned out.
    Good luck with your findings.
