Shorten my dress??

Ok, I purchased my dress about a month ago. It was discontinued, so I bought the floor sample. I am considering having it shortned to just under my knee (I'm 5' tall, so tea-length is not cute, but just under the knee is). Either that, or having it turned into a convertible, so that I would wear it long for the ceremony and short for reception. I should add I'm having a 3 pm Sunday wedding in July. It will be at least 98 degrees!

It's David's Bridal T3185: strapless, ruched bodice, with pockets on the seams of the skirt, and I'm adding a white belt.

How would this look short? Or converted? Opinions please?? TIA!

Re: Shorten my dress??

  • I think it would be very cute shortened.  (I'm biased though, because I'm wearing a dress for my afterno0n ceremony that is just below the knee as well- Alfred Angelo 2155 if you're curious)
  • It's hard to tell, because the skirt looks really full (it's called a ballgown on the website).

I would wait until the dress comes in, have the alterations people pin it up to the length you want and see if you like it.

The dress I wore for my reception was below knee length in the front, and longer in the back, just above my heels. Not saying that would look good with your dress, but it was a look I liked and they did a great job on it. Mine was chiffon overlay however, not sure how that would look with your dress.
  • I think it would look really cute shortened.  If you feel like it's too full to go that short, they can always remove some of the crinoline layers.

I'm another afternoon bride, fwiw - also wearing tea-length.
  • I think short with a nice full crenoline under it would be super cute

  • It will look super cute shortened! I don't think it will be easily convertible because of the nature of the skirt - I don't think you can really do that with ballgowns.
I do second the PP saying you should have the alterations people pin it up for you first though so you get a visual before making the cut!

  • Nice dress, I think either long or short, it still looks gorgeous ;-)
