Re: What is one thing...

  • Shelly, I'm pasty and blinding, too. I don't care. I just pretend it's the 20s and vampy and pale are in fashion! :)
  • haha!  Maybe I will start wearing fringe :)
    Photobucket
  • I go to the tanning bed once a month during the summer. I know it's bad but I don't like being pale and wearing shorts.
    image
  • I don't tan my face though b/c I put acne meds on my face.
    image
  • Do you put a towel over your face ricks?
I've been trying to lay out every weekend so I have some color for next month.
  • Roxy--I love that ring, it's gorgeous!

The thing that drives me crazy is when people who use tanning beds all the time say, "I won't care what I look like later, I just want to look good now." First off, that's ridiculous. And second, I KNOW you'll care about skin cancer later.
  • Yes, I put a towel over my face. I don't lay out b/c it's too hot here and BUGS!

    Meh I am 33 and I look 21. I have zero wrinkles.
    image
  • I cant breathe with anything over my face haha.
    You do look young! hotness.

I dont think I could see myself ever owning a kindle or other device like it, I like the feel of a paper book in my hands.

I remember back when I was gown shopping, I was in a dress, and my mom was going on and on about how I "needed to tan" before the wedding. "I don't want you to be orange or anything, but at least go once or twice to get a 'healthy glow'". I really didn't want to, because I have this fear I'd either burn or just not get any color in a tanning bed. Plus, my mom, who would never do this herself, has been trying to get me into a tanning bed for years, because she thinks I'm too pale. The wedding was just a new excuse to use.

A saleswoman actually politely told my mom that I should really "embrace the porcelain look".  I'm still not a fan of how I look in the summer, but at least I know somebody out there thinks it's ok to be ghostly white, lol.

ETA: My mom really is a good person, it's not like I was raised in a house where I got called "fat" if I gained a pound or my appearance was constantly scrutinized or something ... my mom just has a really weird hang-up about me being so pale.

  • Thank you Roxy!  I just don't want my face to burn. I wear Retina A for my acne and it is serious business if you don't protect your face. I think the reason I look so young is b/c my face is so oily.

I used to work with a girl that laid out in the sun religiously with minimal sunscreen. She was 33 and already was starting to get the "toughened leather" look to her skin. She used to tease me about being so cautious with sunscreen, and I said "Well, at least I won't have skin cancer when I'm 50". To which she, very snottily, replied "Yeah, but I'm <span style="font-weight:bold;">tan</span>". Like it was a huge accomplishment or something. Idiot.

I lay out occasionally when it's nice here. I greatly prefer being tan too, I just know some people who are ridiculous when it comes to tanning beds. I know a girl who has had skin cancer removed 3 times and still tans every week and is 25. It's sad.
  • I have a friend who tans everyday and then tans by her pool. That is too much. Her skin is way too dark. She thinks she is pale. I have just enough color to not be white.

Nebb, I like paper better too. It's something about turning the pages.

  • Ricks- thats what I've started using on my face. So, so drying!

Nebb- I feel the same way. I want a kindle but yet I dont
  • It is drying. I had to cut back to every other day.

Meg, yeah I don't get that attitude at all. I can understand wanting a little color, but that's just way too much.

I know its an ego thing but I love having books out on display, I think its a discussion starter. I like my book collection. I would LOVE to have a house with a library in it one day.

    Roxy, check yo fb.
  • I was listening to John Tesh (Intelligence for your Life) and he said tanning can actually become an addiction.
    It actually releases endorphins.

  • Nebb- Me too, you need to check out my blog post on bookcases...amazing.

I actually like the idea of paper books better, too, but I do a lot of my reading away from home and carrying a thick book around can get annoying.

Plus, our place is really tiny, and I still have most of my books and about 1/2 of DH's books in storage, because there's just no room. Part of why I want a house: more room for book shelves!

I would rather have a book room in my house, than a guest room. Ive had to move so many of my books into storage because I only have room for ONE book case in our bedroom. Its infuriating.

I want one of those in my library AND in my kitchen.
  • Oh yes! I want one in my kitchen too! I told my H this and he laughed but I am only 5 ft tall so a sliding ladder would be super helpful.

I just want a kitchen with high ceilings, high cupboards and lots of jars and containers everywhere with a million little treasures. I have a thing about containers, I love containers, or bowls or vases. I love things. I have boxes of ceramic things tucked away in our storage unit, with nowhere to put them :(
  • Nebb- T loves boxes, loves them! and antiques, its cute.
  • I def want high ceilings.
