Whats a good gift for a pregnant woman? I know I asked not long about stuff for a maternity care package but now I'm leaning towards some kind of...like keepsake type thing that is not cheesy. Or a great book?

It depends on the person, really.  I bought a pregnancy journal but I suck at keeping up with stuff like that, so it's practically empty.

When my SIL gave birth, we ran to Things Remembered and got a picture frame that listed the baby's stats on one side and had a picture of her on the other. She LOVED it!

I think that's a perfectly lovely idea, Roxy.

And not to toot my own horn, but I think the "wedding date numbers" thing that I did with the photos of numbers would work nicely in a frame with a baby picture, too (date of the baby's birth, obvs).  I also love the pictures of individual letters that you put together in a frame to spell out the baby's name - that would be super easy to photograph yourself and put together.

No baby yet. To be honest, we're not even sure that she is pregnant we all just have a strong feeling that she is and word from her friends is she hasn't been drinking....
 We will be seeing her next month (family vacation) and we figure if she is pregnant she will announce it then. I'd like to have a gift ready to give her (I know thats kind of odd? Obviously I won't mention the gift if she doesn't announce anything). It would be her 2nd pregnancy after a MC too which is why I'd kind of like to have something for her.

Not sure if you are close with this friends mom, but if so maybe contact her and have her suggest some books that the friend liked when she was little.  As adults we forget some of the books we loved as kids, but moms always remember that stuff.   I bought my BFF's daughter two of the books that she had forgotten about until she opened them.  It was a big cry fest, but a special gift for them. 

I love books, so books are always something that I run to first.

I should mention too that her and her H are really....hip (for lack of a better word). They're more minimalistic and like original, fun things as opposed to super traditional stuff. I wish I could describe this better.

Thanks, I like doing things like that, it just feels like it means more that way.

Cute story:  From the time I was about 3, all I wanted to do was learn to read.  That was the most important thing to me as a child, I guess I thought that is what it meant to be smart.  My older sister hated reading, still does.  So, when I was little I would sit with her in bed and "read" her a bedtime story every night.  (I made up words that went with the pictures)  A few years ago for Christmas, my sister bought me "The Best Little Monkeys in the World".  I had totally forgotten about that book, but my sister said she remembered the wild stories I would make up with the pictures. That book now means the world to me!  Last year when she had her first baby, I brought it to the hospital with me and read it to her and little baby Blake.

I know you want a present for mom-what if you get a gift for her first born?  Like  a shirt that says, I'm going to be a big brother!!!

dmiller, I was the opposite. When I was 3, my sister was 5 and was in Kindergarten. She is a book worm now, but back then she was not interested in learning to read. She thought that memorizing sight words and learning phonics was torture, so she thought if she had to do it, so did I. I learned to read when I was 3 because she tied me to a little yellow chair using a stretchy belt with a train clasp, and made me learn all those words too. I tried to get away, but she's pretty stubborn. 

She didn't know it then, but she gave me such a big edge over my classmates. I was reading chapter books in Kindergarten. I didn't like being that bored in class, but I thank her now. 

Books are always a great baby gift!

And she needs a sleep book, but I don't know how close you are to her.  I like "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child".  I probably would have done more reading if I didn't have Em early, but it's something that I realized that I had no idea about.

Seriously, if she's JUST pg, don't scare her with books (not the ones for the baby, those are fine).  It's more fun to be pg without worrying about how the hell you're going to raise the kid, lol.
