Gonna be an AW for a bit!

DH and I picked up our building permit today! We are now officially building our own home. It will be debt free, so it will take longer, but I'm so excited.

Last fall we put in the septic system and cleared the lot off to prep for building. Then it snowed so we kind of were at a standstill. But now we're up and running again!

We spent today peeling logs and getting the basement excavated and a couple of trenches dug for footings. It didn't feel like much when it was just the lot and a septic system, but now that we have approved plans and visible work, it's so exciting!

That's awesome! Congrats!  Do you have an end date that you know you'll be able to move in by?

Nope. No set end date. We're building in phases as we have the money and spare time, so we're looking at probably 2-3 years. Plus it's only me, DH, and his parents doing the majority of the work. But the place we're in right now is ridiculously cheap rent, so we can save pretty fast.

That's awesome!! I take it you and your family are familiar with building homes. I know nothing about it and feel like I would screw something up for sure. We want to build, but will probably hire a contractor to do it.

Haha, yes. FIL is a contractor. He and DH build spec homes for a living. I just follow their instructions. ;)
