What's grinding your gears?

I have to go to one of Mr. Heels' cousin's 6th birthday party.  They aren't serving dinner, so it's basically "buy my kid a present, drive 45 minutes out into the sticks, watch my kid open presents, and go home on your Sunday afternoon kthxbai."

His family is huge and they do this stuff all the time.  I've been using tax season as an excuse to get out of going to these things for the past 4 months, but now that it's post April 15, I guess I should make an appearance.

Undecided

I told Mr. Heels we should get the kid a savings bond, and he said that would be great if they came in $15 denominations.

    Today? Everything.

I am insanely cranky, but I bought a cute pair of earrings. That kind of makes me feel better. I want a pedicure and a deep tissue massage.
  • If I actually want to start my wedding vacation on Thursday, I have to go into work in a few because most of the turds that I work with keep sending me bullshit to do. I hate their guts.

Cew, you should grind their gears...and by gears, I mean bones.
  • And by bones, you mean genitals.

The five stacks of papers I need to grade by mid-week. Soooo not fun. I keep putting it off, hoping the grading fairy will come, but he's a no show. Sigh.

The grading fairy is an unreliable hooker.

The grading fairy is a biitch. I bet he's hanging out with the laundry fair drinking bloody marys and laughing at us.

The grading, laundry and dirty dishes fairy are like BFFs...hanging out, not doing their jobs.

Ugh. Geeze Cew, couldn't you keep your laundry fairy under control. I bet he's the bastard who started this strike.
  • I'm pretty sure you're right since he hasn't been around to do his fucking job at my house in years. Every week, I wait on the porch for him and he never shows up. I think I pissed him off the last time he was here because I tried to teach him how to fold jeans like they do in the stores. He got all pissy. Jerk.

Well, I guess it is all your fault. Although, really, if he's any kind of laundry fairy, he should be folding the jeans correctly. Does he mismatch socks too? How about this, I'll come do your laundry if you grade my papers. What could be more relaxing than grading a bunch of really badly written papers!? It'll get you right in the zone for your upcoming wedding.
  • Noooo! I don't think I could handle it. I seriously skip any TK post that is longer than 2 paragraphs. There is no way I could get through those papers.

    Where in SC are you?

You could always do what I threaten to do with the papers: drop them down a flight of stairs. The ones closest to the top get As, the ones closest to the bottom get Fs, and then fill in the middle. . .I think that would make things a whole lot easier. But of course then I would be a bad teacher. Oh well.
Anyway, I am just over the state line, a little south of Charlotte. Whereabouts in NC are you?
  • That's sounds like an amazing plan. I love throwing things down the stairs.

My aunt lives in Lancaster. Are you near there? I'm in Winston Salem.
  • My mom is grinding my gears.  She is being ridiculously nitpicky about details and being a huge diva about this stupid wedding.  And she's mean to FI's family.

Ah Winston Salem. I'm about 45 minutes north of Lancaster. I have a friend who just bought a house there, and she says the drive back up here is 45 minutes. I'm in Rock Hill. Lovely little place...but I'm moving to Columbia in a few months when my husband starts his phd.
How are you doing with the "heat"? People keep complaining about it every time I leave the house today, and I want to yell at them that it's only going to get hotter. It does this every summer. But yelling in public is generally frowned upon, so I just roll my eyes.

Ooh Brie, I had to tell you that I love your dress. You're going to look gorgeous next weekend! I'm sorry you're mom is being ridiculous. I had a similar situation except it was my husband's mom (and dad) being dirtbags. I hope things get better.
  • I love the weather now. I really hated that it got chilly again last week after it warmed up the week before. I'm not a fan of the hot sticky summer, but I prefer it to the dead of winter any day. Especially after the winter that we had.

Is Winthrop in Rock Hill? That's where my mom went to college.

  • I'm sorry, Brie. What is she doing to be a diva?

Yes, I prefer the heat too...except I sweat like a man. Gross.
Yes, Winthrop is in Rock Hill! That's where I got my masters last May, and I actually taught writing classes there in the fall as an adjunct. It's a great little school. Beautiful campus!
  • Small world! Is your dress an Oleg Cassini?
  • Thanks bex!

Oh, cew, she just picks a stupid battle to nitpick on every few days.  For awhile she was insistent that we switch one of our desserts to stupid fresh fruit.  Now her battle is that she wants to bring the OOT boxes to the RD to pass out, rather than have them at the hotels because it will be "too much work" to deliver them.  Um, no.  We are not having party favors at our RD, which, furthermore, you are not hosting and you'd look like a big AW bringing these in.

Then she gets all butthurt for a few days and makes references to me as a bridezilla.  Fun times.  She has gone nuts over this wedding and I just don't giveafuck anymore.

Oh, and my cousin/the RB's mom is being a real treat too.  I hate people.  I'm just going to drink lots of wine this week annd hope for the best.

Hmm. I think so? I got it at David's Bridal. I think it is the Oleg Cassini line there. I actually hated it when I saw it on the skinny little model online (and the thin mannequin), so I absolutely did not want to try it on. Plus it was ivory, which I was dead set against. But to humor my mother, I tried it on, and of course fell in love. The ivory was a much better color for me, too, which she kept trying to tell me. I really should listen to her a little more often. Anyway, that was a long story just to say yes. Sorry.

P.S. Cew, what does your dress look like? Have you posted a picture of it?

Brie, wine is a good solution for these types of things. You're right, of course, that the oot boxes/bags shouldn't be given out at the RD. That just seems weird. With my mom, I've kinda learned to let her win a few little battles because then it's easier for me to win with things I care about. Are there any smaller concessions you can make that would appease her? You're almost there! Also, did you end up choosing a RD dress? I haven't been to your blog for a while. Guess I could check there!
  • I'm right there with you in I just don't give afuckville. I'm totally over it. It actually sounds like your mom is a lot like my mom. Mine is incredibly sensitive and has a tendancy to get butthurt at the drop of a hat. I have to say, though, that she's been much cooler than I thought she'd be through this whole thing. I'm sorry your mom is being a PITA. Just think. One more week of this and then you're done!
  • Oh, I've been trying to give her stuff to work on, but she still manages to nitpick everything to death.  I hate it.

I did buy a RD dress, but one of my commenters told me I looked like a fatty in it, so I returned it and got the white version of the dress I wore in my engagement pictures.  What can I say, I'm impressionable.

I think I'm going to head out for a run now.

  • I actually think we might be dress twins. Is this your dress?

I felt the same way you did at first. I saw it onine and had no intention of trying it on. My friend talked me in to it and I fell in love.

Well! I think that is it. Let me run to the guest room where it's still hanging on the window to check...yep. Does it have a big ol' bow on the back? I love the top and the waist. It made me feel supported and it gave me a good shape. I did have to have the top stitched up a little though because I felt like the V was a bit deep for my ladies.
