HP

Anyone up to let me biitch about the movie? Ok, the ending didn't bug me as much as I expected. I recognize that filming a frozen stiff Harry would have killed some of the emotional impact. I like that he chose to trust Snape and then was seemingly betrayed. But then Dumbledore's death didn't pack much of a punch for me. That was odd. The fact that the Order wasn't there to fight the death eaters bugged me too. That said, I thought this was one of the worst movies in terms of both being confusing if you hadn't read the book and leaving vital stuff out. ALL of the horcrux stories are missing and the one that is included--the necklace--has no context. Why this necklace? How did Dumbledore know where to find it? I think 7 has to be two movies less for what happens in Book 7 and more for the fact that they've got sooo much to catch up on that they've left out of the other movies.

I remember there being a photo of the location of the necklace in Tom's room.  That was the only way I could figure they knew where to go.I thought the death was very anti-climactic.  They tried to bring it home with the wand-raising but not quite enough impact for me.
• Dumbledore's death didn't hit me the way I expected it to either. It just sort of happened. I wish they'd have had the funeral. I was surprised that I didn't cry at all. I cried at the trailer for Where the Wild Things Are earlier that night, so it's not like I'm not a crier.

Also, Fallin I agree they need to split it into two movies, although I suppose they can just montage a lot of the searching scenes...I have to say I was really glad I didn't re-read just before I saw the movie.
• I think you need that moment of realization with Harry that he can move which means that the spell is broken b/c Dumbledore is dead.

• I really liked what they did with Draco's character. And, deviating from Harry's POV worked for me.

• This is Draco's best movie. At the same time, again if you hadn't read te book, I imagine all the time he spent on that cabinet was a little wtf?.

• I shouldn't have re-read. It made the differences and plot holes glaringly obvious. This review was written by someone that hasn't read the books, and I think it's a pretty good assessment of the movies (especially 3, which was the bestest). • Was #3 Azkaban? As a non-HP reader, that was my favorite too.

holy crap WORD @ Luna being the best.  I adore her.I kind of forgot the whole reason Snape was the Half-Blood prince.  One of the other movies had the scene with young Sirius and James etc taunting young Snape, right?  But is it just the name he coined after being teased so much?
• His mother's maiden name was Prince, and his dad was a muggle, so he was a half-blood, and Prince was the wizarding family name he came from.

• I must be the odd man out.  Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorite books, but I hated the way Alfonso Cuaron creppified the movie.

See, I hated how the first two movies were so cartoony.  I liked it getting darker.
• The third book is naturally darker than the first two, but there were several weird things added to the movie that were not in the book, like the shrunken head on the Knight Bus, Parvati's boggart turning from a snake into a GIANT SCARY CLOWN, more shrunken heads in the Three Broomsticks, and the final freeze frame where Harry is flying on the Firebolt and his face is all blurry (and yelly).

• The final freeze frame is teh LAME.

• Oh man, I am sorry I missed this post. I read all the posts from last week and was itching to respond but they're 2 pages back.I didn't see nearly the sexual stuff Noisy did. I think Ginny was trying to say "That kiss can stay between us, if you want" which I don't see as excessively sexual. Also, I agree Harry's diner waitress tour was weird and squicky, but Dumbledore says Harry's been "reckless" not "a bad boy." To me, saying he's been "a bad boy" makes it sound vaguely creppy instead of a reprimand so I wanted to clear that up. But really, he should have told Harry he was being a flucking moron reading the Daily Prophet in public and riding trains all day. That was the same issue that talked about the bridge accident, right? YOU KNOW THE DEATH EATERS ARE IN MUGGLE SOCIETY, YOU FLIPPING MORON.The burrow scene was weird and never wrapped up, which bugged me. Though I'd guess half the people who saw it weren't shocked because, of the people I know who saw it, half of them insisted that scene happened in the books. My own husband, who has read the books several times, among them. I guess they did it because they're not going to have the wedding in the DH movies, but it was so anticlimactic because it never went anywhere!Good things: Child!Tom Riddle was awesomely creepy. The Katie Bell necklace scene game me chills. So creepy.Slughorn was excellent. I pictured him as fatter, but this portrayal was spot-on.I liked the more overt displays of Harry and Hermione's respective crushes. I remember them being too subtle in the books but that could also be my own foggy memory.I wonder if they'll do anything with the funeral in the next movie, since they have to cover the elder wand stuff.Style-wise, I enjoyed it. It was quite pretty and flashy. Plot-wise, it was frustrating. And the ending was so unsatisfying.

• Ditto mostly everything Moo and Fallin said. It always pisses me off to no end when a movie adds random things, and therefore has to cut important plot pieces. I was annoyed they didn't have anything about there being 7 horcruxes or what they might be. So Harry is just going to, what, divine that for himself in the next movie? The Burrow scene seemed random to me, like it didn't really fit (which it didn't really, since they made it up). I also hated how they didn't have the Order their to fight at the end, and was annoyed that they allowed Dumbledore to apperate in and out of Hogwarts. Why change that? Also, why change the look of the pensieve and the Burrow? Not to mention that suddenly when you go it the pensieve, you aren't in the memory anymore. Dumb changes to make. I actually enjoyed Luna finding Harry, but they shouldn't have had her magic his cloke off. I also thought the Cormac stuff was hilarious. And young Tom was creepy. All in all, not my favorite of the movies, but maybe it will grow on me when we get the DVD and I've had a chance to see it a few more times. It makes me even more eager to see the last two, and find out how they wrap it all up.

I was annoyed they didn't have anything about there being 7 horcruxesum....how about the memory scene w/ Tom asking Slughorn if he could break a soul into seven horcruxes?
• I was assuming that the black/white smoke was the visualization of apparition. Yes, I know it's supposed to be disappear/reappear, but that doesn't make for such a good visual. But, it does sort of negate the impact of the fact that Snape and Voldy can fly.

• Except the Order doesn't do it, do they?  I can't remembr if they did in 5, but Lupin and Tonks are just running around the Burrow while Belletrix black smokes along.  It's definitely not what Dumbledore's apparition looked like.
image
• Hmm, yeah, forgot about Tonks and Lupin, but they do it in OOtP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H1cQozUTHE see about 5:45ish.

• I hate the black and white smokey things. HATE. It made the fight scene at the ministry hard to follow and not anywhere near as awesome as it was in the book.
