ipod help

So, the H wants an ipod for his birthday. he already has an iphone, but you cannot load cd songs onto it, only songs you buy from itunes and he wants to load only his own cds. So, we dont need the touch. He wants a larger size with a decent screen. Is anyone familiar with the ipod family and know which one I might look at?

Re: ipod help

  • Don't they make an 8G and a 16G in the regular version?  Or am I making things up again?I have the 8G touch, which is neat and all, but I probably could survive just as well with the regular version.  I don't need all the bells and whistles, touch screens and I don't get along very well so I get yelly when I use it.  But not as yelly as when I try to use my H's iphone.  I could chunk that thing out on the side of the highway one of these daysI used to have a mini, which I loved (before it got stolen. bastards).  I think the nano would be awesome, but I don't remember the space availability on those
  • I have the newest nano and love it. The screen is large enough to watch tv on for me, but I believe the classic has a larger screen if that is more important to him.

  • I'd probably just get one of the iPod classics. They're $250 and can hold 30,000 songs and have a big screen, and he can also have tv shows and movies and crap on there.

  • The nano comes in 8 and 16, AND it has purty colors. I know that will be very important to your H.

  • How extensive is his CD collection?  I have an 8GB nano and I think I have every sone I enjoy on it and it still has 90% of its memory.
  • He wants only black. The classic may be my best bet. I worry that 300,000 songs is not enough.
  • exp, we have an entire room of CDs in our house. He is like the guy in High Fidelity, only not records.
  • Go for the 16GB nano then.
  • Definitely do the classic then. The smaller ones aren't big enough for all our music either, and trying to pick and choose what goes on the iPod is infuriating.

  • I have the 80G. I have abt 3000 song on there, and haven't even really made a dent in the memory. Nice sized screen too. In seperate Ipod help. Can someone tell me how to reset it? I had to change out my battery, and now it needs reset. I don't have the wall mount thingie, just the usb cord. I think someone here taught me how to do it once before.

  • H has the newest black 16g nano.  He loves it, but I hate it because when you are using the keypad to shuffle through a song or look for one, you can hear it through the speakers as a beeping/clicking sound.  It's a lot sleeker than my old one, though, and the screen is bigger.

  • I found a classic 120G for 224 on amazon. Weird though because the 80G are more expensive.
  • he already has an iphone, but you cannot load cd songs onto it, only songs you buy from itunes and he wants to load only his own cds. I'm pretty sure this isn't true.  I only have podcasts on mine right now, but at one time I had a ton of music that didn't come from itunes. If you need a ton of space though, go for the classic.

  • and also the older model Classics are selling for 800 dollars. WTF is that about?
  • He loves it, but I hate it because when you are using the keypad to shuffle through a song or look for one, you can hear it through the speakers as a beeping/clicking sound. I *think* in Settings you can turn off the sound for that. I think.

  • Thanks tastypants! I knew it was simple, but couldn't remember the exact sequence.

  • Wait.  I can load CD songs onto my itunes account by importing them.  Have you tried that?
  • exp, we have them imported into itunes. they won't load ontot he iphone though
  • APPLE AND THEIR GODDAMN MONOPOLY
  • no shiit. i am not sure he would want to use his phone for this anyway because the battery life is so poor running programs. and he also will probably sit at the gym, listening to his ipod and surfing the web on his iphone. because it is a disease.
  • Tasty, Fallin is right.  Go to Settings > General > set clicker to off should stop the click wheel sound

Mucho likes purple nails and purple cupcakes
  • OH THANK YOU.  I will have H change the settings.  the clicking is like nails on the GD chalkboard for me.(no prob, Mo.  my ipod has magically stopped working for no apparent reason before and resetting fixes it.)

  • There will be no cursing of Apple in my presence. I worship at the alter of Steve Jobs.

  • I'm not sure if he is devoted to iPod/Apple, but I have a Creative mp3 player (Zen Vision M, a few years old) and I have had no problems with the battery or player itself. Its worth looking into if he isn't particular about the brand.
  • He wants an ipod. We already have accessories from mine so he could use those if he wanted and since everything is on itunes, I think he wants to keep it in the family.
  • Go for the classic.  My friend is a music person just like your H, and she swears by it.
  • Thanks everybody. that deal on amazon is pretty good, so I think I am going to go for it!
  • i have an 80G classic, and it is one of my most favoritest things i own. <3
