*Butterfly* (and anyone with a juicer)

Somewhat WR - I'm going to be registering for a juicer. Which one do you guys have? I've been looking at a few different Breville ones, but I'm not sure which would be best if I want to do leafy greens like kale.

Thank you! :)

Re: *Butterfly* (and anyone with a juicer)

  • hey girli!!

i have a hamilton beach one that runs well, but is about 3 years old and starting to not "zizz" as well as it used to.  i am thinking about asking my juicers (i go to a juicing stand at our city market most days - the couple who helps me both have masters degrees in nutrition and they are so amazing) what the best home juicer would be as we want to register for a new one as well!

i will let you know what they say :)

the only issue i have had with the hamilton beach one is cleaning it.  all of the icky remains of apples, greens, etc. get stuck in the machine and it literally takes way longer to clean than it does to juice. i am not sure if this would be an issue with all styles of juicers or not...
  • Thanks! Let me know what they say. I was getting suggestions from my gym's blog (lame, and probably sponsored) so I'd love to hear from an actual nutritionist!

  • update!!

They highly recommend the Omega juicers in the $300 to $400 range.  They said there are various Omega designs at different pricepoints but would recommend that brand.  He also recommended the high-end Breville design (couldn't remember the exact style number).  He mentioned another brand that i couldn't find online, but it sounds like these are the two home juicing brands they would most recommend.

They said to check out discountjuicers.com  - some guy runs the website who does comparisons of different juicers and can recommend different machines based on different needs.  For example, some juicers are "slow juicers" (will press juice that can last int he fridge for 3 days), but with some of these styles, you have to strain the juice yourself.  Other traditional juicers move more quickly, and don't require straining, but will not last in the fridge for more than a few hours.

He tried to recommend a juicer to me that cost $4,000.  I told him that was a little out of our price range!!

I think we might try to register for one of the Omegas.  If i can help anymore let me know!
  • Thank you! So helpful. I hope someone buys us a juicer! Probably won't happen but at least if we register for it, we'll get a discount if we buy it ourselves. :)

I will look into Omega - I looked at the Breville ones yesterday. They look really nice.
