Assorted TV talk

I do not enjoy the brothers on Top Chef. The idea of ceviche made outdoors in 100 degree heat makes me want to wretch. Ari is funny, we need more of him.The Office, Parks & Rec, and Community were all fairly funny. I'm feeling optimistic about Thursday night TV this year, particularly when 30 Rock comes back.

Re: Assorted TV talk

  • Really?  I like the brothers.  They, Jenn, and Kevan clearly seem the top of the pack.  I completely agree about ceviche.  I think they were looking for something that didn't have to be cooked, but...gross.  I loved Gail's "Tom's walking away" line.  I enjoy Tim Love at an almost inappropriate level.

  • They never seem happy. Their resentment of each other is sort of unhealthy. Kevin's a favorite in our house. I'm ready to see Ron and Ashley go. I'm surprised someone didn't get food poisioning from the shrimp or Mattin's food.Tim Love was awesome. Makes me want to take a trip to TX to eat at his rather cornily named restaurant.

  • I kind of like the brothers' competition within the competition.  I keep saying that someone needs to give Tim Love (and John Besh) his own show.
    image
  • I like the brothers but yeah, the resentment is big time.  I think it's going to be a battle of brothers at the end.  I think they 100% hate each other. I was just happy Jenn didn't make ceviche. I hope she never makes it again so I don't have to hear her say SA-VEECH. I was happy to see Matin go and I hope Ashley is next. I also hate Michael (the non brother) for some reason.

  • No kidding. If Brian Boitano can have a show on Food, John Besh and Tim Love deserve something. Though sometimes those higher end chefs have trouble translating down recipes to the masses. Michael Symon's cooking demos on some of the holiday specials have been sort of disappointing.

  • I love Michael Symon with my whole heart but I'm not sure teaching cooking is his thing.  I thought Besh was much better on-camera on the Next Iron Chef competition.

  • We're taking a weekend trip in the next few months. The frontrunners are Chicago or Cleveland--only on the list to eat at Michael's restaruant.
    image Ready to rumble.
  • We've seriously considered a trip to Chicago because I love Rick Bayless.
    imageimage
  • Chicago is clearly superior to Cleveland b/c Tasty and I are here.  That said, The Best Thing I Ever Ate had a segment on Best Fried Fods that included fried brussels sprouts at Symon's restaurant and they looked to die for.
    image
  • YES! Fried brussels sprouts sounds like heaven on a plate.  That was the segment that put Cleveland on the map.  Maybe we'll eat in Cleveland then drive to Chicago.

  • I think we would be food friends, Kristen.

  • I already thought we were, Fallin. Our brains might not always agree, but our stomachs surely would.

  • We've seriously considered a trip to Chicago because I love Rick Bayless. Us too.  I'm thinking I'm going to push for it for our second anniversary. And I love Chicago too.  I've never been in the summer though, only in the horrible, horrible winter.  Where it snowed in November (!) and I thought I was going to die of hypothermia.

  • I am trying not to read too much in here about Top Chef because it is still waiting for me on Tivo, but I did see a quick something about the brothers. They creep me out.  They both seem like emotionless serial killers.I am a big fan of Symon.  I think he is great for his personality and his mad skillz.  But I agree, he is not much for teaching. I liked him in Dinner Impossible, but it seems like they may have brought back that one dude (can't think of his name; the dude that was originally fired for misrepresenting his qualifications).
  • They creep me out. They both seem like emotionless serial killers.Exactly.  Even when they win, it's just like :blank face: "thank you."I've watched almost no tv this week, and I've got a ton waiting on my DVR.

  • Vinny, they did bring back that other guy to Dinner: Impossible. Robert something or other.

  • When I saw that Richard Whatever was back, I started to get scared that Symon had left Food Network, but he hasn't, right?  He is still on Iron Chef and assorted shows?
  • I sort of like the cute brother, and the weasel-face brother bugs me. And I'm pretty sure that the only reason cute brother doesn't bug me is because he's cute. I'm face-ist.I feel a rather stupid, weird attachment to Robin and Ashley. Just because they're from Seattle. Though I haven't ever eaten at either of their restaurants. (Though I didn't go to Robin's because the wait was always so foffing long for breakfast and I have no patience.)I love Kevin. He reminds me of Drew, the guy that does Toothpaste for Dinner. And he made bacon jelly. How can you not love him?

  • I do NOT like the Michael that is not a brother. He talks so much crrap. I like Kevin a lot. He remind H and I of a friend of ours with a red beard. Kevin's food also looks good. I think Jenn might be a robot and that is why she says ceviche wrong.
  • When I saw that Richard Whatever was back, I started to get scared that Symon had left Food Network, but he hasn't, right? He is still on Iron Chef and assorted shows? Yes, he's still there.  Supposedly, the plan all along was for him to cover Dinner:Impossible for a year while the fakey faker brouhaha died down.  I watched the Symon version; I do not watch the muscle-bound faker version.I think the Voltaggio brothers look almost like twins so I'm now trying to figure out which one Noisy thinks looks like a weasal--the scruffilier one?

  • I really should watch Top Chef.  I love food (love isn't really a strong enough word for my feelings).  I'm sure I would enjoy the show.Haven't yet watched The Office - it's sitting on my DVR - but Community was cute.  I'm very excited to watch Fringe, which started last night too.

  • I think the brothers look like twins, too (can't even tell them apart yet), so it's funny that Noisy thinks one is cute and one isn't. I thought Mattin should have gone home last week, so I was happy to see him eliminated this time around. Though Robin definitely deserved to go, too.My favorites just happen to be the ones who have clearly demonstrated they know how to cook--Jenn, Michael, and Brian. Big surprise. When Tom got up from the table, I thought he was maybe going to go rip someone's head off. That would have been better TV. Gail was hilarious, though.Kristen--We spent last weekend in Chicago and it was A-MAZ-ING. Loved it. Granted, we had absolutely perfect weather, which I'm sure contributed to our high opinions, but we had a blast. I highly recommend.
  • I had to look up their pictures on the Bravo website, I forgot their names. I think Bryan is cute. I think Michael's nose is pointier and his eyes are a little narrower, but they do look a lot alike. Also, I forgot to say in my last post, Michael V. is revolting to me. Everything about him.

    image

  • Mike Isabella with the creepy grin, Noisy? Also, I groaned out loud when they showed the preview with that obnoxious Brit who subbed for Gail last season.  Seriously?  Anyone but him.
    image
  • Agh. Yes. Mike I. That's who I meant. I just want to punch him every time he opens his mouth. Repeatedly. While wearing brass knuckles.

    image

  • Ugh, he's coming back, Fallin? My DVR cut off before the preview. That's disappointing.
  • Yes, stupid Top Chef.  Bring back Gayle from Masters if you need a sub.  OR, BOURDAIN. Where is he Speaking of Tony, did anyone see the last No Reservations where he visited the ILs with his blond toddler? Tony with a baby blows my mind.

  • I haven't watched this week's Top Chef yet because we're behind this week with so much going on.  It's going to be a DVR rally weekend for sure.  But I can say that I have an equally large amount of dislike for Ashley and Michael I.  I'd like both of them to go home ASAP.  He's a cocky douche and she does too much whining and annoys the crap out of me.  I also really don't like Jen, even though I think she's awesome at what she does and I should be rooting for her.  Something about her just bugs.  I think it's a combination of her awful pronunciation of ceviche, and the way she moves her mouth (or rather, doesn't move it much) when she talks.  And her voice.  All really great reasons to dislike someone, I realize, but she's just like nails on a chalkboard for me.I love love love love Kevin, though.  He's my favorite from day one.And we finally watched Biggest Loser last night. So many tears!  Even my H teared up a couple of times, which is a rare occurrence
