Any health insurance experts?

I had to pick a new health plan so I went with one that covered the giant practice all of my doctors are at. Only now I'm finding that none of my doctors are covered.I was under the impression that they couldn't just cover some of the doctors in any practice. At least that's how it was in CT. Am I mistaken?I'm going to call them in a bit and see what the deal is but I'd like some information before I do call and I'm at a loss of what to even Google.

Re: Any health insurance experts?

  • Moo, not an expert, but I am learning a lot in this new job.  Each state is diffrent and how they cover things and from what I have been lhearing, MA does have such practices with health care.
  • total lurker here......in indiana, usually all the doctors use the same tax id. so with my doctors, it the tax id is covered then they all would be covered. i would call the insurance and see who they have covered with your plan.hope that helps, jean
  • I'm no expert.  It is strange, but I *think* individual doctors negotiate what insurance companies, plans, etc. they will accept. It also might depend what kind of practice it is or how it is structured? I don't really know. Can you still see them but pay the higher out of network fee, or is that not an option with your type of plan?

  • I've heard there are no doctors in Massachusetts.  Hezz said so.

  • Moo, is how long since you switched?  Is it too late to switch back.
  • Okay I got the scoop. This plan has two networks and my idiotic soon to be ex-husband picked the one that has a very small coverage network. We can change it, though, and have more coverage. So although my initial question still goes unanswered (how can they only cover a small percentage of a practice and say they cover the practice?), it can probably be fixed.

  • I'm in NY and not all doctors in one particular practice are always covered. I had to sign something at my RE that said I would find out which dr's were covered and that I had to pay if I saw someone out of network.  It sucks. I'm glad you can get it fixed.

  • I am glad you can switch so it can all work out.  Sorry about the grief this must have caused you.
  • Wait, wait, WAIT.  You can ALWAYS keep your doctor with a free-market private insurance company plan.  They give you freedom!  Public assistance is the only situation where might have to change your doctor.  You must be confused.
