The 80s were awful the first time around, why do it again?? In a moment of weakness, I bought a pair of black maternity leggings. They are comfy, but my thighs are NOT slim enough to pull them off  in public with anything other than a knee length dress.

is this what happens when the fashion world runs out of fresh ideas?  I mean, come up with weird triangle shoulder seams or pants that have portholes with swimming fish or something.  we already did this.  AND IT WAS UGLY THE FIRST TIME.

Topsiders are not the ugliest thing to make a comeback. I wouldn't even put these in the top 10. The plaid button up shirts with ruffles fill me with rage, though. And wide belts worn high on the waist, and fuccking jewel tones, too. BLARGH!

Brett and I both have Sperry top siders.  So do all of the female engineers in my office.  I loaf them.I also like the plaid shirts (especially the ruffly ones!), although I don't own one.

Jewel tones aren't 80s!  I like 'em.  But yeah, everything else needs to be shot into space.

The other day I was looking at some store's catalog and I saw a black and white plaid flannel shirt that was exactly like the one I wore most days from 8th to 11th grade (except it was probably fitted, and the one I had was a men's XL). It took some serious restraint to keep me from buying it.

Confession: I went shopping today and saw a couple of those plaid shirts that were maybe a little cute. Not the bright yellow and black plain ones, but a different plaid shirt. Andplusalso, Spencer Pratt was just on tv wearing a black and white ugly plaid shirt. I think that is a big enough case against the new plaid trend in and of itself.

This new version of the plaid shirt seems more cute cowgirl 80s-ish footloose style than shapeless early 90s flannel grunge glory.  I don't hate the new plaid, but I don't think I'll be buying it anytime soon.  I feel way too old for that look.NP just gave me flashbacks to my senior pictures, several of which were of me in huge men's flannel shirts from Eddie Bauer.  Ugh.

Me too, Lindsay! Mine were my dad's shirts. I had two different ones for my senior pic looks. The pits hung down to my waist. With a super tight shirt underneath. Man, we thought we were styling.

I did the men's large flannel in HS during the "grunge" years.  the new flannel with the ruffles and the fittedness are kind of cute, though.  Especially with the little puff shoulders.  I'd pair it with a pencil skirt and heels today, though, not scruffy jeans and converse sneakers.

I would welcome the grunge look back.  I love plaid flannel shirts.  And because I'm a packrat, I still have a couple from back in the day.

Next time I go home I need to find my 9th grade school picture. I'm wearing a Soundgarden t-shirt, my flannel, and I'm growing my bangs out, so they're about chin-length and the rest of my hair goes down to my butt. I look amazing.
