Baptism gift?

My nephew's bapitsm is this weekend, we have no clue what to give for a gift. What is the norm these days? I feel like it is really casual and thrown together I don't even think they sent invitations if that matters. WWAFB give?

  • Savings bond?

  • It is more of a traditional gift, but I still like doing it for family members.  A Pewter cup with his name and DOB engraved on it, and a small savings bond.
  • I don't know anybody who's had a baptism for their baby, but I think savings bond or something like that is the traditional way to go.

  • I was thinking a savings bond or college fund $$, just have no clue how much to give. $100 maybe?

  • $100 savings bond sounds perfect.

  • A big book of children's Bible/religious stories or a Child's Bible?

  • Savings bond is great. We got things like a children's bible, sterling cup from Tiffany with Maggie's initials, a fancy baby spoon, knick-knacks like photo frames, CD of children's church-y songs, etc.

  • I didn't even know it was customary to give a baptism gift, but that's because I'm apparently a heathen.  Learned something new today!
  • I would probably go with something religious in nature.  Maybe a Buddy Jesus action figure?

  • I usually also give a bond.  If it's someone I'm particularly close to, I might also give a small, gold cross that the child could eventually wear as a pendant.  I have several that were given to me at my baptism, and I still wear my favorite today.
  • Generally, the godparents give the silver cup and spoon.  That could be old fashioned etiquette though. As just a guest, I ditto the savings bond
