  • Thanks! It's been awhile since I had an interview. I get so damn nervous. I have no idea what kind of questions she is going to ask me. Are phone interview questions usually different than face to face?
  • Also, she said it will take about a half hour...I may pass out from not breathing:(
  • I've only had one phone interview.  I don't remember the questions being unusual.I think Mod actually conducts phone interviews sometimes  She may have more suggestions if she s on before your interview.

  • Don't use a cell phone.

  • Good luck!  Breathe slowly and have something liquid to sip to keep your throat from drying out and a coughing fit ensuing.  I am so grateful I work for myself...most of the time.
  • I can't believe I am actually helping you, but....I had common questions and my planned answers written out, just in case I had a brain freeze.  Especially if you had some conflict or problems at your last job you need to explain, I would write out exactly how you want to describe it then read from your notes.

  • I did the same thing as Fenton, wrote out a few answers to things in a Word doc as well as wrote down questions to ask the interviewer so I didn't blank at the "Do you have any questions for me?" question like I usually do.

  • If there's more than one person on the interview, write their names down as they introduce themselves. It helps when you send a follow-up email.

  • Make sure the battery on your phone is fully charged.
  • they'll definately ask, "if you were a flavor of ice cream, which would you be?"  so have your answer ready.  and if it's not brought up within the first ten minutes, you really should just take some time and address it so it seems like you know how phone interviews work.  break a leg!

  • 2 pieces of advice. make sure you take a pause before answering the question, not a long one, but just long enough to be sure that the interviewer is really finished asking the question. it is harder to not talk over eachother on the phone. If you do have answers written out be absolutely positively sure that they answer the question asked, not a similar question. I see it all the time where someone has rehearsed an answer, and it is semi but not completely responsive to the question that was asked.
