Newbie/Photog Recs

Hi! I'm Alaina. Well, I have been engaged for a couple of weeks. I am a planner, so I have already started to get things in line (even though we aren't getting married until March 2013. One of the things I am looking to get started on right away is finding a photographer. I want to be able to send out engagement announcements/STDs early. I was lurking and saw a post a few down about a certain style, but I am looking for more bright color and less muted colors, so I didn't look past the initial poster. I am new to the whole wedding thing, so I don't know any photographers.
Thanks!

Even though that wasn't your style, there are a LOT of good photographer reccomendations on that thread.
Also try Stephanie Brazzle, I feel like her photos always have a lot of color.

Welcome and congrats on your engagement! I don't think you are planning too quickly at all! I think a lot of brides get started about a year in advance.

As for photogs, I love mine and they are very, very highly recommended around here. www.mcgowenimages.com. Not sure if they are the style you like...I'm terrible about describing photography. :)

I took your advice & looked at the recs from the previous post. I also found out how to access the vendor list. By first glances at some blogs here are some that I would love to hear more about from people who used them (or if you can think of anyone with a similar style)...

    Lynn Michelle
    Sixfourteen
    Perez Photography
    Joseph Mark
    Ben Q Photography

Hi Alaina! Congratulations on your new engagement! How exciting! I think the most important thing to consider when it comes to any vendors for your wedding is your budget...that will determine how you can spend your money and also where to spend it.

Lynn Michelle was my photographer (although Perez was my first choice, but not available on my date). I also really love Six Fourteen--those are all great choices. Perez books really, really fast. Here are my wedding pics if you want to see them

    http://110709wedding.weebly.com/

I loved working with Lynn and her crew and can't say enough good things about her.

I don't know anything about Ben Q, but from the others on that list, Six Fourteen would be the least expensive and still great.

I set photography as the most important. I think around 4k? I don't know if that is reasonable. Many photographers don't have their prices listed. I think Sixfourteen and Joseph Mark both had theirs listed and it was 4k or under.

    I LOVE sixfourteen!

I also loved my photographer, hamptonmorrowphotography.com. I think she definitely fits into the style you're going for, and she was under $4K.

    Welcome and congrats!

4k will definitely get you a great photographer! There are so many great options out there for that budget! You may even have too many options lol

Welcome! I second Stephanie Brazzle. I'm using her and she is so sweet and good at what she does. I do feel like her photos always have a lot of bright tones, too. (Also, her packages start at way less than 4k.)

Stephie, your pictures are beautiful. Thank you for sharing them. It's good to hear from people with actual experience with these.
I will email Perez if they book as quickly as you say. I want to narrow down my choices so I don't have to meet with 100 people.

Ah, thank you, you are so welcome! Lynn was around $4k when I got married in 2009--but don't let that stop you, we were able to craft a package that worked for us. Like I said, those are all great choices, you can't go wrong with any of them. I love Nine too, roseofdeborah's choice--they are kind of quirky and weren't my style but they do great work.

I really like the husband and wife team idea, which is why I am not sure about Stephanie Brazzle. I don't know why that is appealing to me. Maybe the sentiment?

My sister used sixfourteen when she got married and he was AMAZING! I did all the flowers so I was so excited that the photos were beautiful in my portfolio. Her bridals were also absolutely stunning!

Also, I can attest to the fact that the guy from sixfourteen (don't remember his name) was really nice, laid back and easy to work with! He was really friendly but also did a great job. The only reason I'm not using him is we have a MUCH smaller photo budget (but we are using Heather Hawkins Photography, in case you want another name to look up!)

We have had many Knotties use Colton but not sure if many of them post anymore. But he is so wonderful--I would vouch for him even though I've never used him! :)

Here are a few Knottie weddings:
    Brittany: http://www.sixfourteenphotography.com/?p=3349]
    Courtney: http://www.sixfourteenphotography.com/?p=2430
    Courtney's B&G session:http://www.sixfourteenphotography.com/?p=4010

ETA: Oh and Colton did one of my favorite Knottie bridals ever, Brittany:

Ok! That settles it. I will for sure be contacting sixfourteen. I love his style & that he works with his wife. I saw that he has great reviews on wedding wire, so that makes it even better.

I also will probably contact Lynn & Perez.

Thank you so much for all of your recommendations! I am excited to get the ball rolling.

Perez Photography and Ben Q have already benn mentioned.

These are the 4 I recommend for this style.

I absolutely LOVE SixFourteen. Colton does great work! I also really like Stephanie Brazzle's work as well. I love her use of natural light -- she takes some absolutely stunning pictures.

If the husband and wife team appeal to you my photographer is a husband and wife team as well. Cindy and Saylor Photographers http://cindyandsaylor.com/

I've worked with Cindy for both of my daughter's senior portraits and she is a joy to work with and their packages start at $2500 so they will fit into your budget.

Thank you all so much. I am overwhelmed with the responses and all of the recommendations. I emailed sixfourteen, and we have a meeting scheduled. I am really excited. If we don't click, then I am going to get in touch with some of the other recommendations.
