Herro?

Anyone here? Mike's got my cold and is lounging on the couch reading the Victoria's Secret holiday catalogue. I'm making Christmas shopping lists.

• I'm jealous. I'd like to do that sometime but we don't have a chest freezer, just a second fridge.

• So I was invited to a baby shower for tomorrow afternoon, and just got this email from the sister (and hostess) of the mom-to-be:As most of you have heard from K** (thanks again) or heard her voice mail, the baby shower is no longer. Apparently R**** doesn't want to attend. I would love to be able to excuse her due to hormones (which it could be partly), but it just comes down to her being rude. With all that being said (in the very shortened version), it's not a baby shower but a game day. Feel free to bring your boyfriend/husband and any game you'd like to play. We have lots of food and drinks. The only thing we don't have is beer. So hopefully this rather awkward situation can be something fun.--R*****Glad I hadn't bought her a present yet. I wonder wtf went down.

• Woah. Oh my.  Apparently she really didn't want a shower. I know some people don't like to be the center of attention (or so I hear, I don't know what that feels like) but there's something really neat about having your family and friends fawn over the impending arrival.

• Well that email was certainly mature. I'm sitting around watching college football.

• It was to be pretty intimate, too, I think there were only going to be about 8 of us including her two sisters.I think not wanting a shower is something you need to express before it's planned and people are invited (pretty invitations, too!) and food and beverages are purchased.I know both of her sisters live frugally, too. I think this was a big deal to them. I feel bad for Rachel (the sister sending the email). She sounds pissed.

• I am here in a food coma. Which is crazy since I barely ate any food. how can I be starving every few hours yet only eat a 1/4 of what I used to eat? And, pdx, that is really awkward. The email makes it even moreso. I would not want to go at this point.
• Yes, she certainly could have been more tactful in the email, which is why I'm curious as to what the heck happened to rile her up so much.

• Do you think she said she didn't want one and they insisted and it just escalated? Or maybe she did just decide no way at the last minute.
image Ready to rumble.
• it is obviously a knee jerk reaction. i do that too soemtimes. it just sucks when things resolve and then you feel awkward for your reaction.
• I get confused when PDX and Winger post in the same thread. Aside from filling up, how was your dinner date?

• No idea, I haven't see the mom-to-be in months. I'm better friends with her sister and husband. She was on our kickball team but quit when she got pregnant. She doesn't seem the type to be averse to attention, but who knows what really went down. I'm tempted to go just to see if the story comes out.

• it was good, it was an early dinner and i just had a snack. We are going out for our fancy dinner tomorrow. And I am giggling/shaking my head reading this....http://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/25612594.aspx
• Oh dear. She might best be served by staying away from alcohol at all. She needs all the brainpower she can muster.

• She's like 5 minutes pregnant. Way to plan ahead.

• I like that she thinks alcohol stays in your system for DAYS.

• who rubs alcohol on gums anymore? do they still vulcanize their tires too?
• What should I make first with my beefs?  Pot roast? And srsly, I have like 30 lbs of ground beef...

• have you ever tried J&J's pot roast? I really like it.
• Mmm. You won't have to worry about anemia!  We made Tyler Florence's beef stew a few weeks ago, it is amazing.http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/the-ultimate-beef-stew-recipe2/index.html

• I have a good dumb prego story for ya.This guy that I was friends with way back in the day (ok, middle school), has been with this girl for a year years (like, 2). They live with his parents and neither of them have jobs. I know he was going to school, not sure if he is anymore or not though. Anyway, she told me last week they're trying to get pregnant. Which "his mom would be sooooo mad at because they can't even sleep in the same room together". I tried to subtly talk her out of that ("don't you want to be able to give your child everything it needs? Don't you want the baby to know that it wasn't made purely out of spite?" etc...) but she was not budging on her impending train wreck so I gave up. This is after she told me she thinks she IS prego, and worried because last week she got so smashed at some party.Today I get a text saying she's pregnant. Me: Oh, that's awesome. Do his parent know yet?Train Wreck: No, R wants to tell them after Christmasso we still get our gifts and they aren't mad during the holidays.Me: Don't you think they're going to be mad no matter how long you wait? I mean, if I were his parents I would be. Sure they'll get over it but you know that they just want what's best for you guys?TW: R is a grown man, his parents need to understand that and give him some space. he's old enough to make his own decisions about his family.Me: Just because you're 20 doesn't mean you're a grown up. Usually grown ups have jobs, their own place and once in awhile, they get married before they begin to have kids. Some even make sure they're able to support the family.TW: Whatever. i can see you're just going to be a biitch about this.Me: yes. Yes I am. Sigh.I wish I were a grown up.

• I put in a smidgeon less of both than he suggested, but those flavors were actually what made the stew amazing. And the horseradish cream is just a bonus of yum.

• Today was my Nephews 1st birthday party. My sister is all drama all the time and tried to cancel the party last night.  My dad and his wife hosted it at thier house, and invited someone my sister didn't want there.  When she found out yesterday, she threw a huge tantrum.  Wanted to cancel, called me 100 times when Tony and I were eating out.  Screaming in the phone for me to fix it.  Told my dad to uninvite them or she was never speaking to him again.  It was awful.I'm over my sisters drama.  Every weekend I get an upset phone call from her.  She's also mad at someone, or her husband is in the hospital with broken parts.

• i am not shocked by that behavior ttmeans. i hope you understand it is the same reason people try to convince you that getting married young won't work. when you are in the situation, you feel justified and think everyone else is just being a bitchh.
• dawg, that sounds rough. is she in therapy? or willing to go to therapy?
• Dawg, that sounds horrible. My SIL always has drama and problems too (you know, the type that life just happens to, she has no role in it), I find a nice little break from talking to her gives me the relief I need. It's so draining to have that much dramz in your life.

• i am not shocked by that behavior ttmeans. i hope you understand it is the same reason people try to convince you that getting married young won't work.Yeah that's true, very true. I wouldn't dream of bringing kids into the world if neither of us had jobs and what not. Idk, to me that sort of disrespect is so in his parents face. And it's sad because they aren't the ones that will suffer, it's a kid. We know the statistics of getting married young. I'll admit that I do find them scary but at the same time, I feel that if we went into a marriage thinking "well, if I decide  like you anymore I can just divorce you, it's no biggie", then we'd probably get divorced no matter how old we are. We both feel that divorce isn't an option unless something crazy happens like he turns into Godzilla and I become Japan. I think it's sad that so many people my age think of marriage so lightly.

• I don't think she knows how bad she is, Winged.  She's the Baby of the family, and everyone always tip toes around her.  I need to tell her what an butthole she's being, but that will cause me drama that I don't need.    She did recently get some PPD meds from her doctor.  But her issue has been going on long before she had a kid.  Long Before.  PDX, why do you have so much meat?  mmmm meat.
