Snarky Brides

*Blue*

So we have some things in common!

Are you guys working on any projects right now?  We are in the process of digging out our basement.  We are 1/2 done with concrete laid on one side, but I can't find the motivation to start the other side.  It took us about 6 months to do what we've done so far.  Just FI and I, with shovels and wheelbarrows.  It was horrible.

  • No big projects right now since the wedding is 2 weeks away.  But FI just finished building a bocce court in the back yard, lol.

Next year we are going to put an inground pool and re-do the back deck.  And finish the basement.  We got water last year so we wanted to make sure the repairs we did work through the winter thaw.

We also want to dorm out the top floor. We could add another 2 bedrooms if we do.  The good thing is that we have alot of room land wise to go up and out.

We also just finished the electricity in both garages.  When we bought it the electricity out there looked scary!

For your digging, could you rent a machine for the weekend?  I think its only 200 bucks or so for 2 days.  It would save you time!

  • We looked into different types of machines, but none of them would fit down there!  We can only get into the basement from the backdoor - no outside entrance like those cool double door things a lot of people have.

We screened in the front porch last year - best thing we've done so far!  We also want to add a second floor at some point.  We thought about going the dormer route, but we'd still have to raise the roof a bit even with those - the attic is only about 6 ft high in the center.

I want to go back instead of up.  The yard is big enough to do it, but my FI insists on the second floor.  I am scared to death because of how long the basement is taking.  I would think an entire second floor addition would take a few months to complete.

  • Yeah, it would probably take that long.  It looks like our 2nd floor used to be a walk up attic that previous owners made into a master suite of sorts.  It has a sitting area (which will be perfect for a nursery) a bathroom and the bedroom.  But thats why its perfect for dorming.

We raised the ceiling in the bedroom because it literally came to the top of the door and freaked me out cause i am tall.  It also only had 2 windows up there.  One on either side of the house.  So we pushed the ceiling to the rafters (about 2 feet up) and put in sky lights.  I wish there were more windows up there though,

I dont think FI is ever not going to have a project that he wants to do.  I am just going to have to come to terms with it, lol.

  • Yup that sounds a lot like me.  He decides what he wants to do and I just go along with it.  When it's all said and done, I am always happy with the outcome though so I don't complain.

That's exactly what I want to do with the upstairs - make it a suite just for us.  I am thinking we'll start that a few months after the wedding when we get our finances back in order.

Wow you are so close to your date!  I bet you are excited.  I am still about 7 months out and am realizing I should have booked a make-up artist and DJ by now.  The few I have called are already booked....boooooo.

  • AHH!  You are funny.  What are you going to do?

I originally planned on doing my own, but ever since we got the dog my skin has been really weird.  I definitely need a professional there that day in case I have a crazy chicken pox face.

  • I have a few calls out to some girls who work at Mac.  They do weddings on the side.

I cannot do my own.  I will end up looking like a drag queen.
