Update to the Kitty update

So I woke up this morning to more cat vomit as well as traces of blood in her stool. Fvck. We have a vet visit at 2:30 and I'm trying not to lose it until then. It turns out there are no vets open in my town today, and the two emergency clinics are swamped so the earliest they could see her would be 6pm. I'm driving two towns over but at least they have someone open!

Re: Update to the Kitty update

  • I'm so sorry about your kitty!  I hope everything turns out okay.

    Drive safe!

  • Oh no!  Poor kitty :(  Hope it turns out alright.
  • Oh no! Try not to worry too much. You are doing everything you can. There are a lot of pet owners that wouldn't make that drive.
I'll say a prayer to St. Francis for you guys.

  • I'm so sorry.  I'm glad you found someone to take her today.
  • Is today a holiday I don't know about? Why wouldn't they be open?

I'm sorry to hear about Demon. I hope she gets better soon. Be sure to let us know how she's doing after the visit.
  • I don't know Seshat. Apparently Wed is really the weekend? The vet office we take Katie too is open but the vet left at 10am (they open at 8...), two other ones closed at 11 and the final one had the vet leave at noon.

I'm debating whether I want to call Scott at work and let him know. He's not getting home until 6 so part of me says to just wait until the visit is over and then call, verses him worrying for 3 hours when there is nothing he can do.
  • I would wait. I used to call H every time Shy had a problem, but he couldn't always be there, and him worrying didn't help at all. Now I call for emergencies only.

  • oh no! good luck! give kitty lots of love and we will all keep you in mind!

  • Wow, that vet sure works hard...

That's why I love my vet, they have 3 on hand to make sure someone is always there. I don't know what I'd do if sudenly they were closed.

I'd also wait until the appointment to call. If there's nothing he can do and won't be able to come home, I'd wait since he;d just be worrying the entire time.

Oh noes!  Ditto everyone else about vets not being open being silly, and yay for you for taking her where one is open.

    I hope she's ok.

  • awwww i hope kitty is ok...that sucks and is scary

let H know after otherwise he will be worried too....

keep us posted (and you seem to have as much pet knowledge as I do - kitty hydrated?  gum test? that would be my biggest worry til you see the vet)

  • Hydrated, peeing fine, running around like crazy. Gums look fine and she's grooming. She had a solid poop yesterday and wasn't throwing up at all, so today it was weird.

I did give her a new wet food last night (went from Fancy Feast to Blue Wilderness wet) so I'm hoping the vet will say it was just a cold and a food change that caused it.

She's definitely coming home with a weight loss plan though, which means all the girls in the house will be on a lifestyle change diet haha.
  • could be the food...blue is pretty high end so less fillers and richer

if she were a dog i would say colitis  :0)  don't know if cats get that when stressed for some reason or not - IF it wasn't the food change

    keep us posted!

  • Will do. She's been eating the Blue Wilderness dry for about 2 months or so now but had been eating Fancy Feast for wet. She threw up her Fancy Feast Monday morning so I was hoping it was just the food.
  • My vet closes at noon on Wednesdays.  I have no clue why, but it looks as if other vets do the same thing.  Weird.

If it helps at all, my kittens had traces of blood in their stool last winter.  The vet gave them a de-wormer and that took care of it.  Hopefully it's something minor like that.

  • Well, they couldn't find anything immediately wrong so that's good. Temp was fine, gums fine, nothing turned up in the fecal and her GI tract looks normal. They think she might have just eaten something off the other day and it's taking a little while to work out of her system. She has antibiotics for 5 days but should be good after that. Whew!
  • Oh that's good to hear.  Healing vibes to kitty!

  • whooo hooooo
