What dress did you get?

I'm here watching SYTYCD. I had a pretty shitty day but I'm thinking it's just because I'm tired and cranky.

After trying on a bunch of gowns I was convinced I would end up with a lace or unadorned fit and flare. But for some reason, I just loved, loved this dress on. Plus the fact that I got it as a sample didn't hurt.

Why was your day crummy? And yeah, whenever I don't feel well, my day is never quite as good as I want it to be. Sometimes you just have to wait for tomorrow.

Yay for wedding dress!  A Lazaro gown was the inspiration for what I wanted in my gown. Yours is lovely.

I am starving. N had to stay late at work, so I'm waiting to eat with him and I'm trying to stay within the caloric limit I've set, so I'm distracting myself on here. It blows.

Ugh, still stuck here at work until 6. Loooong days! I went dress shopping last weekend and found mine. I love it.

Nates- Thanks! I love Lazaro gowns but was a bit worried about the price. It was just so serendipitous that the gown fit perfectly and was offered to me as a sample. Post pics of yours! And I think you're a teacher, too, right? What do you teach if so?

Jshillings- I love your dress. It is exactly my taste.

General question- I was thinking of adding sleeves to my dress. Thoughts? Maybe just straps?

Unless we're getting home at a ridiculous time, we usually wait to each together.  He wouldn't be mad if I ate, but I like sitting at the table with him and catching up.

Starry, I have a bunch of pics in the bios in my sig. Great job at scoring a sample! And, yep, I teach--English (American literature and a film studies elective).

I don't think your dress needs sleeves. That's a lot of dress right there, sleeves might be a bit too much.

H is playing a video game, I'm editing. I was supposed to do some work from home but I don't feel like it.

Here are a few pics of my dress. I don't have many wedding pics on my new computer so these are all I could find that show the whole dress:

Oh, I love it, Nates. Especially that lacy train and those covered buttons.

Seshat, I was worried sleeves would be too much. Do you think that plain ivory spaghetti straps would be as well? I really wanted some type of sleeves or straps but am beginning to resign myself to the fact that it might be just too much.

ETA: I love the movement of your dress. Not a fan of too stiff dresses.
  • Options
I'm not sure. I just think with that back, that straps might take away from it a bit. The top part is gorgeous and I wonder if adding extra fabric would change it up too much.

But, I'm a fan of strapless dresses so that could be coloring my opinion a bit.

    Thanks, Starry!

I would ask what they can do for the dress and maybe have them show you some sample straps or a removable shrug/bolero you could do. I agree with Sesh, though--that's a lot of dress, so it might be too busy.

And with that, the husband is home! Later!

Thanks, seshat and Nates. You're pretty much confirming my suspicions.

Seshat, I love your bouquet. Do you have any more pictures of your wedding flowers?

    Pretty dresses ladies! Congrats!

H just got home with the stuff for dinner...whole rainbow trout. And rabbit. I'm making rabbit stew tomorrow and I'm pretty excited. Classic Maltese dish in my family.  Thursdays have turned into my guilty pleasure evenings. H golfs/hangs with golf guys til after 9 and I cook him a real nice dinner and get all sexy looking and play "housewife". I drink like half a bottle of wine and enjoy myself quite a bit.

I finally got my $500 deposit back from my venue. They had to reissue it because the first one got lost in the mail. We didn't realize it until several weeks after the wedding cause we were on our HM and up in MI for a wedding. I will finally have more than $50 in my bank account and I am excited.

    I have this pic:

They are actuallly just silk flowers, a random variety from Michaels. You can kind of see one in this pic, but there are also silk butterflies (blue and white) throughout.

    On me:

I really wish my photographer had gotten more shots of the skirt, because it was what I loved about the dress.

Also, I am making cupcakes tonight. Has anyone tried those altered directions all over Pintrest about making them taste better?

add one more egg (or add two additional if you want it to be really rich)double the oil amount, but use melted butter instead of oiluse milk instead of water

Thanks, MilkDuds, DJ, and Megbo!! Thoughts on straps?

Megbo- The bodice on mine sort of reminds me of yours.

Any- I always, always use butter instead of oil. I think the flavor is much better. I would be a bit worried about doubling the amount of butter though. The liquid: dry ratio is usually pretty important and I would be concerned that the cupcakes would be too greasy. I would keep the amount the same or add just a tablespoon extra ( I do that a lot).

I vote no straps. Have you considered cap sleeves? What kind are you looking for? My dress is a Maggie Sottero. You can see it better in my video (linked in my sig) it's the Jovi.
I vote no straps. Maybe one strap if if can be the same material as the floral detail on the skirt and be on the opposite shoulder so it wraps around your shoulder and connects so the design looks like one piece.  (Does that make sense)?
    Posted by ILoveMilkDuds
<div>Yes, it makes total sense. I wonder if they would give me a piece of the same floral material. But it sounds like I should just resolve myself to no straps. I am just worried that I will hike it up all night. Tips?</div>
<strong>A properly constructed and altered dress should not need to be hiked up all night.</strong> My seamstress said your core/hips should support the weight of the dress so it doesn't fall down.  I think I may have hiked my dress up once all day and that was after dancing like an idiot for a few seconds with my friends.  my dress had a lot of boning in the bodice as well.

This as well, I dont think I hiked mine up ever.

Any- I always use melted butter instead of oil. I think butter has a richer flavor than oil.

ETA- When I bake, that is. Cooking is a whole different story.
Thanks for the advice, Duds.  Ah, Kd, you made me so excited with that compliment that I will now full on AW my dress with me in it. What kind of puppy is Atticus? Pics?

Love It! And you look great in it!

Atticus is Doberman, he is 5 months old. This was last week.

Pics of my dress are in my bio - link in my sig.

Today was exhausting. We had an in-office surgery that went way long, so I didn't get home until almost 2 hours later than usual. And DH isn't here to keep me company. Bummer.

ETA: I did not wear a veil at all. I just left my hair the same for both cermony and reception. I think if I had done a veil, I would have taken it off for the reception.

KD- Adorable! I love his name, too.

Blue- I can't see your dress (or train) in your sig pic... Can you possibly make it a bit larger?

<div>Well, butter definitely can't make things worse tasting. Trying it!</div>
