Snarky Brides

A little weird?

So I've been emailing my FSIL today about wedding beauty stuff.  She's one of my bridesmaids and she asked me about hair and makeup.  I'm getting my hair done, my sister/MOH is doing her own, my cousin/BM has really tightly curled hair and she's doing her own.  I'm doing my own makeup and I assume my sis and cousin are as well.
FSIL (and take my word for it, I'm not upset in the least) thinks she's going to get her hair and make up professionally done the morning of the wedding.  If she wants to, that's of course her choice, but is it going to look weird if only one bridemaid has pro makeup and fancier hair than the other bridesmaids?
I kinda feel like a cheapskate now for not getting my makeup done, but when I had a makeup trial, the woman seriously over-did me and I looked like an oompa loompa drag queen, not exactly how I wanted to look on my wedding day.
I dunno if I should just tell her to do whatever she wants, even though she might stick out in the pictures....

Re: A little weird?

  • NBD. Let her do what she wants. I seriously doubt anyone will notice that she's got pro hair and makeup and the other BMs don't.

  • Ditto LC.  Some folks are just not comfortable doing their own hair or makeup for a fancy event and will just feel better about themselves if they have it done.
  • Yeah, let her do it. You and your other girls will look just as nice. It is't like she is showing up in a formal dress when the other girls are wearing jeans or something.

You are supposed to look like the ultimate version of YOU on your day and if that means doing the make up yourself instead of letting an overzeaouls make up consultant do it, there is absolutely nothing wrong or cheap about it.
  • Ok, good. that's what I thought, I just wanted to make sure. Thanks ladies
I don't need every eye on me at all times, but I didn't want her to stick out too much, I am the bride after all  lol

  • I agree with what PP said when someone people are just not comfortable doing their own hair/make-up for special events. I really doubt you'll be able to tell the difference.

At my first wedding I had my hair done pro, and all my girls opted to do their own, I actully liked their hair better than my own!!

  • I think pro-styled hair is much easier to tell the difference than pro makeup.  If I saw a wedding where a bride had a very casual hairstyle that she had done herself and a bridesmaid had some elaborate professional updo, then it might look a little off (not that it would be a big deal still, but a bit more noticable).  But pro makeup?  Naw... I doubt anyone will know your make-up isn't professionally done if you practice and use good products.  And if her make-up artist does their job right (which your trial make-up artist clearly didn't) then her make up will look natural and will not be over-done and obvious.  I doubt she wants to look like a drag queen either, probably just doesn't want to do it herself.

To be honest, I would hire someone to blowdry my hair for work every day if I could afford it!  I hate styling my hair, and know only one way to do it, so for any special occasion I'd have to pay someone if I wanted it to look at all different or more put-together than I do on a regular day.

  • I am terrible at doing hair and make-up.  So unless a ponytail was ok, I would be SOL without a hairdresser.

That being said I would not show up with some fancy up-do.  I would just get something classy and natural, but put together.
