Snarky Brides

Re: I find this interesting

  • They have to play to their audience.

One of my friends told me that Cookie Monster doesn't eat cookies anymore. Is that true? WTF is that about?
    imageimage
  • Huh...that is interesting.

I wonder how they'll bring up the subject of the girl muppet's HIV infection (how she got it, etc). Or maybe that would just be too depressing for a pre-school show. Undecided

  • I don't know about the Cookie Monster thing, but the main character is obsessed with yams because that is a staple in Nigeria.

  • I had heard this before. I think it's awesome, personally. I think Sesame Street is an incredibly valuable resource for kids.

SS fun fact: At first, only kids on Seasame Street could see Snuffleupagus. But they changed it and made him visible to everyone so kids would be more open to talking and trusting adults about issues like child abuse.

  • Cookie Monster can still eat cookies.  He just enjoys them in moderation :)

  • It was only Big Bird and the TV audience who could see Snuffleupagus.

I watched it from it's conception.

  • I think it's good to cater to your audience and discuss important topics like that. They're trying to educate the kids, I think it's great, so long as it's done right.

I've never actually seen SS. I feel like I missed out on an important part of childhood.

    You totally did.

I had Sesame Street vinyl records.  I'd put them on the record player myself and listen to them.  When songs came on I ran around in circles in the living room.

I can still hear those songs in my head!  "There ain't no road too long..."

    That just blows my mind.

  • I stand corrected, Missy.

Cookie Monster will always eat cookies. Come on!

Now. Do you know why Mr. Rogers talked to his fish?

[QUOTE]I love kid show trivia. Because Mr. Rogers received a letter from a blind girl who was concerned that his fish wasn't being fed. After that, he talked to his fish when he fed them so the girl would know.

  • Did you know that Steve from Blue's Clues left the show to pursue a music career and a rumor started about how he died from a drug overdose?  Kinda hard to go on tour if everyone thinks you're dead.

  • I loved Sesame Street, Electric Company (Morgan Freeman as EZ Reader, Rita Moreno, etc), and Mr. Rogers.

When I was having bad/down days, even as a grown up, I would turn on Mr. Rogers. Seriously. That, plus flannel PJs and a PB&J would help. A little, anyway. I love Daniel Striped Tiger.

Apparently I used to pitch a fit and throw things at the TV as soon as my mom put SS on, so she had to change it within a minute or so. Finally she stopped trying and put on TMNT and Pink Panther instead. Or Disney movies (which is probably why I can quote just about all the classics word for word).
  • My mom used to express time to me as a child in units of SS.  "Little raynes, I'll be one and a half SS's late picking you up today."

Perhaps the HIV positive muppet contracted it in utero?

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

  • That's what I figured Raynes. Although, the thought had crossed my mind that she was a slut-muppet, but that may be deemed 'too adult' for Pre-K kids lol.

Whenever I watch a scary movie that gets to me (like Paranormal Activity did) I'll watch cartoons like Powerpuff Girls or even SS to help me feel better. Otherwise I can't sleep that night.

  • "C is for cookie, that's good enough for me, oh C is for cookie, that's good enough for me.... Cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C."

I fully credit Sesame Street with me going to kindergarten reading on my own. Well, that coupled with my own brilliance, naturally. Wink heheh.

Mr. Rogers was also an ordained Presbyterian (or United Methodist) minister. I think he would have been a neat person to know. I actually shed tears when he died.
